| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 26, 2009 Presentation: It was poured from a 12oz brown bottle into a pint glass.
Appearance: The pour produces a light tan head of good size that slowly fades to much thinner covering. Lacing is slick and spotty. Underneath the head is a very dark amber liquid with reddish highlights and decent clarity.
Smell: Its aroma is malty and sweet, candy like and a little roasted. Hops add a touch of floral and light citrus perfume like notes.
Taste/Mouth: The flavor is sweet, malty, and bready with a light touch of caramel and a very slight hint of coffee like bitterness. There are also some nice mild roasted notes and well balanced hop flavor. The finish has more roasted notes and hop bitterness fading off the tongue. The texture is slightly thin and very drinkable with aggressive carbonation that has a little bite.
Notes: It’s a nice overall dark lager with a good balance of hops and malt. It reminded me of a light bodied, thinner Oktoberfest beer.

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jul 21, 2009 Poured a dark brown with a short lived off white head. Roasty caramel aroma with a rich caramel taste. Not a bad beer but not really my favorite. fromred2green (170), , Ohio, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jul 20, 2009 Bottle. Pours near-black with a large beige head. Aroma is mostly malt, and an awful malt at that. Flavor is slightly malty. Simple beer, not much in the way of uniqueness. Taste is not bad if you hold your breath to avoid the smell. Average at best. BeerBunker (616), Burbank, Illinois, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jul 12, 2009 12oz bottle from Orland Park Binnys. Pours dark amber with a small white head. Aroma is of bready malt, caramel, peat moss, grass, and alcohol. Taste is of harsh and medicinal alcohol, a bag of yard waste, and bready malt. Very watery mouthfeel with an overly carbonated body. Harsh to the taste, and pretty damn hard to put down. SynergyXJ (506), Blacksburg, Virginia, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 10, 2009 Bottle, #487. Mahogany pour with big tan head. Malty aroma and flavor. Some offness in the flavor. Not bad, but not the best schwarzbier. bubbleflubber (898), Collinsville, Virginia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 10, 2009 Pours deep mahogany with an offwhite soapy head.... frothy retention and soapy lace. Some doughy notes initially to the nose, alongside sweet caramel. The flavors follow more along a traditional lager than a schwarzbier, but nonetheless, it’s way better than the current overall rating suggested (2.93). Sweet malts, roasted and a touch yeasty. The finish brings a small hop, just enough to close the pull cleanly. There is a hint of toast and roasts in the back-palate, a tad on the drier side. The mouthfeel is a bit watery with zesty carbonation levels. It seems put-together well enough. blutt59 (2167), Dallas, Texas, USA
