joekfsu (118), Boardman, Ohio, USA Jun 22, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a dark ruby with a 3 cm off-white foamy head that is mostly diminishing. Aroma of toasted malts and a hint of chocolate. Initial flavor is much of the same, mostly the toasted malt, some coffee and chocolate. Flavor is balanced by these flavors throughout. Light body, light carbonation, moderate lacing, and alcohol well hidden. Overall, very drinkable and flavor was better than expected.
biggmike (396), Gulfport, Mississippi, USA Aug 18, 2008 Poured a dark amber color with slightly off-white head that didnt last too long. Aroma is of caramel and toffee with burnt notes. The flavor is roasted malt that is a bit sweet. This beer is very smooth and easy to drink. Nothing spectacular, but a decent session beer. jimmay (13), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Aug 17, 2008 Bottle, from New Orleans. Pours dark brown, not black. Dirty head, condenses quickly, but remains. Aroma and flavour of burnt. Malty, not particularly bitter. Not bad. tronraner (1399), (Louis-, Sevier-, Knox-)ville, Tennessee, USA Aug 16, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours dark mahogany color with beige head. The aroma is dark toast, caramel, toffee, some burnt notes. The flavor is roasty-toasty, with a caramel malt sweetness behind it. There is some distinct raisin, as well as a general scorched quality. The balance between the sweet malts and the burnt bitterness is interesting. It leaves a sort of chocolatey aftertaste, unlike the taste in the mouth. Not outstanding, but drinkable. faroeviking (4134), Faroese Beer Republic über, Denmark Aug 14, 2008 Botella. Clear deeep dark brown almost black colour with a big mostly diminidhing beige head. Poor lacing. Aroma of roasted caramel, mild smoke and roasty malt. Good mouthfeel. The flavour has a pleasant mild sweetness with roasted caramel, mildly roasted malt, some some and a touch of chocolate. Roasty bit sweet mild finish. berkshire_john (1048), Bracknell, Berkshire, England Aug 14, 2008 33cl bottle from Plonkers, Derby - "EU Brewed" Black with a dense cream head and a ruby tinit; burnt toffee aroma; rather disappointing cola flavour, with lots of sugar syrup; finish is slightly spicy and warming. Poor in comparison to a Czech Schwarzbier.
