The nose is that Southern Dixie/Abita cheesy muskiness that I dont know what to attribute to. The mouthfeel is rather light, but the tastes are yeasty, but there’s a slight malt bitterness in the palate that is interesting. The sweetness is rather strong - to the degree that it resembles Twizzlers. Now that I’m finished, I’m ceratin that it is far too weak and water to be a good beer. | 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Jul 7, 2005 A rather interesting aroma on this Voodoo - mostly pear and cranberry. The body is malty and rather uninteresting and benign. The description for American Dark Lager says the style has low amounts of hops, malt and body. This example certainly fits the style. Blah. | 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Jul 1, 2005 Deep fruity nose, pear, with cocoa, caramel notes. Small off-white head. Ruby brown clear body. Not much here as far as flavor is concerned. Hmmm. Sweet roasty malts, light to medium bodied, finishing with bland staleness. Liquid cardboard or brown paper bag. Put this one in the funnel, or main-line it. I need to try the white moose from these guys. I used to wear a Blackened Voodoo t-shirt like 7 or 8 years ago when I was in highscool. I used to like that swill back then. Smells better than it tastes. NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jun 30, 2005 Just a malty lifeless beer that i give credit for being availible in Tampa long before most of the current micros. Drinkable, but not exactly the kind of thing that gets you fired up. DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA

Moderately malty, light sugary sweetness, and a touch of hops for balancing bitterness, so it’s not bad at first, but all that is offset in the finish by a fairly prominent cardboard flavor, a major detractor overall. Light to medium in body. The nose isn’t especially aromatic, but is sugary and malty, with a slight bit of hops. Dark ruddy amber, or if you rather, light ruddy brown, with a light tan head that barely builds a complete layer, and quickly settles back down to a thin ring with some wisps in the center. Pretty generic as craft brews go. cansdap (17), Madisonville, Louisiana, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 26, 2005 Doclock’s review was quite on point. In the bottle, it tastes like it was watered down but would be a top 50 if concentrated. I would add one point however, on draught (which I now know of only one place in the entire world, Mulate’s Restaurant in New Orleans) it is quite different. The flavors open up and it becomes a delicious Irish red in the manner of Smithwicks, but better. As with all Dixie’s, it mystifies me why this beer isn’t widely accepted by locals. As much of a wonderful, divirse city as my hometown is, the locals en masse just don’t get fine beer flavor.
When in town, go check this beer out at Mulate’s. JohnC (2286), Mission Viejo, California, USA
