I was hoping this was truly a beer from Ghana, as the label suggests (albeit not in English). It would have been the best ever African beer. It has that Belgian sweet caramel, a little duller than the best Belgians, but loads of fruitiness (banana) and a hint of spice (cloves as baked into ham) from the alcohol. Perky body, tingling. I’m sorry, I found this quite enjoyable--quite against the grain, I suppose. I was thinking that this was African, and on those terms I was very impressed. Bottle in Berlin.

Bottled. Terrible aroma of artificial stuff and yeast. Very yeasty and extremely sweet. Very unclean and totally undrinkable.

Huge perfumy nose with hints of peach and a very sweet fruity aromas - like juice. Toall fomay head atop a slightly hazy yellow color body. Sweet like fresh pressed peach juice. Thin and not good.

Bottled - searched for it forever - tasted June 2004 - wow Ernest, you found more infos on it! Straw yellow, medium frothy head. Artifical lemon nose - might be the supposed passion fruit aroma. Like a fruit soda, very weird and not likeable at all.

Brussels, Cafe Delirium, Nov 2004. Head is initially large, frothy, light brown, mostly lasting. Body is medium brown. Aroma is moderately malty (cookie, caramel), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with notes of cola, coriander, and orange peel. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, creamy texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Similar to the Mongozo palm nut beer (in that it’s supposedly made in Africa, and also in that there is a banana version as well), but higher octane (though hidden pretty well under all the sweetness). Not too bad for Huyghe I suppose.
