Commercial Description:
Based on our head brewer Ben Potts’s “Best of Show” award winning homebrew recipe, this double IPA brings a ton of hop flavor and aroma without being overly bitter and harsh. The complexity of this beer lies in the “Garden,” which contains 12 different hop varieties. Dry-hopped in the bright tank with a special blend of hops.

On tap at the brewery. Pours dark hazy gold, little white frothy head. Nice pine and floral aroma. Flavor had no sweetness and then a funky sweaty bitterness. Almost tastes like columbus hops really dominate the flavor (don’t know what’s in the "garden" though). Strange aftertaste and a bit boozy for me.

Sampled at GABF. Amber pour with sticky white head. Bitter, hoppy aroma. I remember the flavor being disappointing, that the rye IPA was much better. It had a decent hop punch though. I’d give it a second shot.

Bottles at the Philly Beer week event at GABF at the Curtis Hotel. I think Friday night? Pours a bit cloudy amber/orange with a fluffy diminshing head. Aroma is a bit yeasty and dirty but has some toast and crackers with some citrus and pine notes. Flavor is a bit yeasty, slight phenols, plastic, toast, bready, yeast particles, earthy notes, spicy hops, slight citrus,- light green tannin, and a slight resinous hop finish. Ok. Didnt really seem at all like a DIPA though.

Pours a dark amber/copper color with golden ruby hues when held to a light source with a one finger off white head that has decent retention, slowly fading into a lasting ring that leaves sporadic small bits of lacing. Aroma is dominated by floral hops, hop oil and pine. There is a slight malt backbone presence but this smells overwhelmingly bitter with very faint citrus notes Chewy medium body with a very intense dry bitter hop blast. Floral hops dominate throughout and are very prominent out front. Caramel malt backbone really doesn’t balance things out much and the citrus notes from the aroma are nowhere to be found. Resinous and bone dry with an extremely bitter finish. Alcohol is well hidden but this beer is kind of one dimensional. Not very drinkable due to the intense dry piny feel.

Tap at Dock Street (beerofthebike PBW 09). Pours a hazy deep orange with a medium creamy off white head that laced. Aroma of resiny hop, pine, floral, caramel and doughy sweet malt. Flavor of resiny pine, grapefruit, floral, light caramel and bready malt.

Poured a lightly hazy, amber color with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of pine, citrus fruits, caramel malts, floral hops, and light toast. Taste of pine, caramel, citrus fruits, tobacco, and a bitter, grapefruit, hop finish.

Draught at TJs: Aroma of hops, fruit, slight tropical fruit, flowers, pine, and grapefruit. Poured amber in color with a big, dense, creamy, off-white head that lasted throughout. Slightly hazy. Sparkling. Excellent lacing. Flavor was medium to heavily bitter. Tastes of grapefruit, hops, light caramel, and pine. Medium body. Sticky, slightly dry texture. Average carbonation. Hoppy, bitter, citrus finish.

On tap at the brewery. Beer was reddish-pink. Scents of hops and alcohol were present. Beer was surprisingly sweet as well as hoppy with neither overpowering the other. Lots of citrus smell and taste. For a high ABV beer, the alcohol taste was definitely present but not overpowering or boozey. Very drinkable with excellent flavor. I would drink again. I have yet to be disappointed by Dock Street.
