raymow (736), Bensalem, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 24, 2007 Nothing special but o.k. I guess. It has the typical malty sweetness of most bocks,in fact it got sweeter the further I got.I don’t thinkI would seek this out again, but it wasn’t terrible either.
dmac (890), Toms River, New Jersey, USA Sep 27, 2008 12 oz bottle from Canals in Burlington. Pours a deep orangey brown with an average size quickly disipating foamy light beige head. Super sweet aroma with notes of old syrup, caramel, toffee, grass, earthiness and some lemon juice. Fuller syrupry body with average carbonation. Flavor is sweet overall and a step up from the aroma, notes of caramel, raisin, slight doughy brown bread, a hint of citrus rind. The hops in this one are long gone much like the original microbrewery. riversideAK (1653), Shoreline, Washington, USA Aug 12, 2008 Bottle from hopdog. Aromas of sweet caramel malts, dark bread, and a light fruitiness. Pours brownish red with no head. The brew is pleasantly sweet with caramel, toffee, raisins, fruit. Hops are light and a touch spicy. The sweetness is moderate to high and pretty nice. Low carbonation, pretty heavy almost syrupy body. This is way better than I expected. Rciesla (910), Brick City, New Jersey, USA Jul 4, 2008 Bottle. Pours a dark brown body with a tan head. Aroma is sweet and malty a bit of hops. Big malt sweet coffee, caramel sweetness and some dark fruit, eh. beastiefan2k (1133), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas, USA Apr 2, 2008 Interesting beer, I have been looking to try it for a while and you would think its easy since its brewed in NY, unfortunately this is a contract brew for a Philly brewer. Finally found this on a trip through Jersey. It pours what at first looks like a brown color but upon closer examination it has a good amount of dark ruby red and some orange hues as well. It has little to no head even with some vigorous stirring. Basically, it looks syrupy, cause its dark and thick yet clear and headless, a definite foreshadowing to the rest of the beer. The aroma hits you on the nose and there one in one knows this is not going to be the traditional German doppelbock. Its full on over the top maltiness thats turned syrupy and just overly sweet for my preference (and I like sweet beer). There is plenty of alcohol present, also some light char, earthy bark, and a light off-putting fruit off flavor. The malt and the bigness of it are redeeming enough. Fortunately, the flavor is much less in your face. It’s still syrupy with very sweet char-like flavor. Otherwise, Matt brewing does a good job filtering the crap out of this beer making it relatively unfelt going down. Low bitterness and a reduced carbonation. 12 oz bottle, no date, St Paul tulip/snifter glass. jeremytoni (589), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Apr 2, 2008 From a bottle poured dark brown with a fair amount of head. Nice sweet flavor with lots of carbonation.
