Cybercat (778), Georgia, USA Jul 6, 2009 Aroma is strong, hoppy, and surprisingly fruity - the orange and hop aromas battle for dominance, so one whiff is hoppy while the next is of orange. It pours a hazy orange-amber with a fairly thick and rather persistent white head. Flavor is richly orange and a little sweet with a firm hoppy but only slightly bitter hop undertone. This is quite unlike any IPA I have ever had - well worth the effort of setting up a trade! Texture is rich and silky smooth, yet fairly tingly and lively. gracefullypunk (272), Washington, USA Jul 5, 2009 Honey colored and highly carbonated, the palate is somehow still syrupy, likely due to the heavy alcohol, which is apparent in every sip. Yes, it’s a great beer if you’re looking to get tipsy off one, but there’s no real balance to it. It’s not as hoppy as most IPAs, with much caramel in both the taste and the aroma. Still, for what it is it’s an interesting beer and fun to have every once in awhile. JoeTheYounger (217), California, USA Jul 5, 2009 Pours a golden amber color with minimal lacy head. Aroma of this bottle is absolutely amazing. I have never smelled an IPA this crazy. Candy sweetness, earthy, caramel goodness. The hops are very flavorful and are very well over the top but they do not leave that lingering bitterness of most IPAs. djcoke1 (9), Arizona, USA does not count Jul 3, 2009 On tap in a sniffer.
Pours slighty hazy with nice lacing.sweet malt and grapefruit on the nose. Super sweet with an alcohol bite. Always a good beer to start a night off with.
ThaddeusBraun (9), North Carolina, USA does not count Jun 29, 2009 NOW THIS IS AN IPA, after having the 90 i was expecting not to like this beer but i had to give it a shot and i am glad i did. i expected the same unbalanced characteristics that the 90 had but i was wrong, this beer is amazing, almost 22% but it is barley noticable. great hop profile. scoth (266), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Jun 28, 2009 Bottle from winter, late 2008/early 2009. Pours copper-orange, with a thin beige head, good lasting lacing. Strong alcohol aroma, with caramel, grapefruit, heavy pine resin, peach, hay, and an earthy, fungal undertone. Medium body, low carbonation, somewhat sticky, but smooth and dry. Very sweet malt flavor up front, caramel, bread, apple, and a strong alcohol, pine and hay finish. Slightly more sweet than bitter in the aftertaste. This is a huge, wild and burly beer. furiousdman (5), Bakersfield, California, USA does not count Jun 27, 2009 Play it again, Sam. The massive number of hop additions and whatever other strange alchemy Dogfish Head did to this beer created a surprising beast of a beer. My best description would be to call this beer a light, carbonated port wine. It does not tastes bitter. It is almost syrupy sweet, and there is a definite raisin flavor. Yet, the hop flavor shines, harnessing the sweetness and making the beer very drinkable - albeit in sips rather than gulps. I need to find more. lowgun1212 (75), Montclair, New Jersey, USA Jun 25, 2009 wood brown, thin head. a - dried apricot, peppermint, raison, worsteshire? t - super complex sweet & sour, pepper & spice, grass, toffee, cream. mf - syrup
