Commercial Description:
Too extreme to be called beer? Brewed to a colossal 45°P, boiled for a full 2 hours while being continually hopped with high alpha American hops, dry-hopped every day in the fermenter for a month, and aged for a month on whole leaf hops, 120 Minute IPA is by far the strongest IPA ever brewed. And at 21% ABV and 120 IBU’s, you can see why we are calling this the Holy Grail for Hopheads. Editors note: ABV reduced down to 18% in 2009.

From bottle. Aroma smacks you in the face. Its like a Phaal in the curry World. Its vicious, in your face, highly hopped and spicy.Cloudy brownish colour with a thin frothy head. The flavour is fantastic. Definitely something different. Spicy, hopped followed by a calm delicious sweetness of raisins and fruit. The beer has a great big pair of bollocks. It hides its ferocity behind a layer of calm syrup. Very slick and tasty.

bottle. Wow! This beer is insane. Thankfully shared with my brother and spitted. Strong alcohol presence and laced with massive amount of hops. Always wanted to experience this beer and glad I did.

Bottle pours an pale beige head with some legs and a golden amber hazy body. Smells of bubblegum and spicy hops with notes of citrus hops and medium malt sweetness. Flavor is ripe fruit, alcohol, cloying, and massive hops that are mellow and balanced. Not too bitter. 9/17/09: Just had an 07 bottle. Full of spices, honey, raisin, apricot, fig, intense, smooth, melded. Absolutely amazing. Hardly any alcohol presence. Gave 0.4 more points around the ratings.

12 oz. bottle. Shared with Gabe. Pours a thin head over a slightly cloudy, golden (SRM 10-15) body....nose essentially pine and grapefruit, with late mellony tones....taste initially and throughout is of amazingly heavy sweetness, again mellony in tone, this is balanced to some extent by the hops, but this is basically a hop candy....moouth feel is thick and heavy, I wonder what the FG is. This is completely unbalanced and the forces are out of control. I know they tried to keep them balanced, but they failed, unless this were called hop port,

Pours a cloudy burnt orange with a thin white head that becomes a small ring around the edge of the glass. Aroma is very strong pine, oily hops. Tastes incredibly sweet, with a sour apple zing in my opinion. Actually doesn’t seem that bitter. This can’t be 120IBU’ s. Very dense mouthfeel, oily and rich, like sweet hop candy. Alcohol is warming, but not overwhelming, although I’m getting hammered here pretty quick. Not quite as bitter as I was hoping, but delicious nonetheless. Yum a dum dum.

12 oz bottle shared with Steve from Ryans Party Store in Port Huron Pours a hazy orange with a small off white head The aroma is hmmmm let me think maybe HOPS oh yes lots of wonderful hops The taste is thick and sweey bitter hops but not as bitter as you would think for 120IBU the 21% ABV is very well masked This is like a liquor or ice wine would not want to drink a lot of them but one after dinner is amazing VERY GOOD

Why does Dogfish Head make their special beers so high in alcohol? This beer was way too thick, too sweet and too high in alcohol. It was an ugly looking beer too, thumbs down.
