This beer is intense. The pour is a hazy gold/orange, and it laces quite well. At first I couldn’t even deal with the aroma. It was so intense that I really had to let this breathe and have an opportunity to really open up. Nose is all about the hops. Pure concentrated hop juice. Citrus oils and solvents are upfront, huge bread crust malts follow, with all I can describe as hop fuel. it is really just hops all the way, and not in a way I have encountered before. Upon first taste, I was unprepared for the experience, and let the beer sit for a while longer. I poured a 4 oz sample, and that was more than enough at first. Straight up hops, tonnes of citric pithy flavours, some fuesel components, orangey malts, very alcoholic. The hops here are an all out pine blast. Like eating pure pine needle extract. This is so intense that I had to drink it over 2 days, 3 servings. This is a boozey hop fest in the mouth. Not for the beginner or faint of heart. This is a sipper, and I think this one should be aged for a few years to really let the intensity become a bit more well rounded. Overall, it has huge alcoholic and pine notes in the finish, syrupy and sweet. An experience I will remember for sure. A good beer, but perhaps a little too intense for everyday enjoyment. Certainly a treat! Thanks again Eric, for the bottle, I really appreciate it, and was glad I was able to celebrate 1500 with this brew!

Over the top booze producer with some citrus and pine flavor hints. I was half way through the bottle when I felt it. Holy shit. sjolles85 (80), Tampa, Florida, USA

So here goes. Has a greatly clouded deep golden color. Smells of intense hops. INTENSE! As for the flavor.....WOW!! This is the real deal! Has an extremely insane hop flavor with a sweet undertone. Unreal. I am happy to say that I have had the privilege to have tried this. Excellent work Dogfish head. SHIG (2023), Aviano, Italy

Aroma is fruit, piney hops, and sweet. Overwhelming sweet fruit that is suddenly slashed by chewy hops. Finish lingers on the lips and tongue. A true hop bomb! | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 19, 2009 Poured opaque pale marigold, almost milky in appearance with a thin white head. Seemed almost solid like an actually piece of cantaloupe. Aroma was coniferous sap, kind of woody, very much like a christmas tree, fruity sweet, subtle chocolate undertones, and of course alcohol. The flavor of the malt barely came through but seemed to me to taste like unground coffee beans, then quickly changed to cantaloupe, grapefruit, apple cider, pine, and a tartness combined with the heavy alcohol presence. The palate was full bodied and also very warming. This is definitely more of a liquor than a beer. ben4321 (988), Rockville, Maryland, USA

Really enjoy Dogfish’s "IPAs" (you may not necessarily call this an IPA, as it’s really not) and of course this is the best of the 3. Super strong beer, interesting flavor, worth trying, but at the price I wouldn’t drink it often.
Location: 12 oz bottle from some bottle shop in Delaware, 9/7/09
Aroma: Aroma is potent, fruity, hot, strong floral character
Appearance: Hazy orange color with some white head
Flavor: Mostly hops obviously, but a pretty strong alcohol taste and some strong maltiness too, complex and enjoyable
Palate: Warm alcohol burn, big mouthfeel and body
Overall Impression:
I decided the good ole 120 could use an update to the rating from a nice bottle. Picked up some more of this stuff to age, but this bottle did remind me nicely of the ones I had enjoyed in the past, a nice beer for sure. The standout on this one for me is how complex it is. It really is wonderful in that way.

It’s surprisingly sweet (the hops are more overpowered than you’d expect), but it’s got a wonderful sherry quality with a serious alcohol bite up front, then a floral hop finish. Well done.
