pibbsman (5), Bristol, Rhode Island, USA does not count Feb 24, 2009 12oz Bottle. A great beer to go with a special meal. Unbelievably Hoppy taste, but the bitterness fades very quickly towards the end. Certainly not an everyday beer, but excellent nonetheless. netfall (2), Oaklyn, New Jersey, USA does not count Feb 23, 2009 An excellent beer if you like hops - and I mean really like hops. The heavy alcohol content does well to balance out the extreme hop flavors. An excellent special occasion beer. fidelis83 (707), Clinton, Iowa, USA Feb 23, 2009 Pours a murky apricot orange with a 1 finger ashy tan head that has decent retention and leaves tiny specks of lacing. Aroma is huge flora and citrus hops, some pine. Dig a little deeper and mango, pineapple, a hint of caramel, yeasty bread, bubblegum, unripe cherries, fresh cooked pasta and some sort of sweet booze that I can’t really pin down. Flavor is is interesting and very different for me. Up front is sweet naval orange, blood orange, bubblegum, mango, cherry, the malt notes are very mellow, sweet bread, heavily buttered toast, raw grain, and some dark fruit notes. Finish citrus and floral hops, pineapple, bubblegum, some other fruitiness and a little alcohol bite at the end. Not alot of bitterness. Palate is thick, sorta chalky at times, somewhat sticky and very oily. RoyalVagrant (1), Houston, Texas, USA does not count Feb 22, 2009 Just finished this amazing beverage at the Petrol Station in Houston. Wow not just a great beer but what a hops head paradise. Go, Now! The Petrol rocks and Ben and Darren are at least demigods! jlruthven (134), Milledgeville, Georgia, USA Feb 21, 2009 Bottle from Warehouse Liquors in Chicago, served at room temperature in a snifter. Pours thick, hazy orange with a half-inch white head that reduces to a cap of lacing. Nose is huge and resiny, with the expected citrus and pine right up front. Tastes of ripe oranges, mango, slight caramel, and candied sugar, along with some surprisingly heavy malts.
This was a recent bottling, so it would benefit from some cellaring, but this was the first and only chance for a while that I had to try it. Struck me as more of a cross between a big IIPA and a barleywine. Goes down exceptionally smooth for the ABV, though. ditmier (1021), Boise, Idaho, USA Feb 20, 2009 Bottle from March 2006 - Pours a thick dk orange with a lasting 1/2 inch off white head...aroma is caramel corn, candy and hop resin...flavour is helped by a few years in the bottle, smooth blend of sweeter than shit malt and a hop backbone...finishes cloying but not bitter interestingly enough...alcohol present in the pack of the throat, but nowhere else...great experience beer, but not something to drink all the time... altonbrownd (1862), Amsterdam, Netherlands Feb 19, 2009 Amber body, creamy head. Hoppy nose and taste. Quite sweet. Fruit notes, especially grapefruit (as usual). Then the high-ABV kicks in! A hopman’s delight. GranvilleTim (466), Granville, Illinois, USA Feb 14, 2009 Great hop aroma during the pour. Light amber in color with a nice cream head. First taste was sweet with a hoppy aftertaste.Left a little beer in the bottle and swirled up the yeast and poured it in after first taste. Changed the sweetness. I’m going to grab another at Rudy’s before they’re all gone so I can see how it mellows with aging.
