garthicus (1215), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Feb 12, 2009 Bottled March 06, sampled Feb 09! Thanks to Blankboy for sharing with HogTownHarry and I. I’m the only one rating!! Anyhow, Appearance: Cloudy orange, small but sticky white head. Aroma: Citrus, malt, lots of caramel and hops, slight alcohol. Grapefruit whispering in the back. Flavour: Rich, sweet as heck, wonderful warming alcohol feel, honey, wow, so much going on. I can’t help but think what it was like fresh as this is incredible 3 years on! Wow. jmulv (82), Rensselaer, New York, USA Feb 11, 2009 This one’s certainly not for those with weak constitutions. But at about $9 per 12oz bottle, it isn’t meant to be consumed very often either. This is my first true "experience" beer, and I was very happy that I indulged my curiosities. The taste has a very citrusy start, then a kick of alcohol, and finally fades out leaving you with a citrusy residue. The taste is certainly not for everyone, but everyone should have the experience of drinking a beer this intense. ryanknock (150), San Francisco, California, USA Feb 9, 2009 Serious hop overload in the nose. Orange, grapefruit, soap, basil, burning. Medium body, slight and sticky, pale orange color. Flavor is like basil, grass, orange and alcohol. Not even really an double IPA, this is something different entirely. Finish is acidic and pucking, you pull back. Points for the effort. BrotherGrendel (545), San Diego (La Jolla), California, USA Feb 9, 2009 a- pours a dark orange hue with 1 fingers worth of off-white creamy head that is mostly diminishing, minimal particulates and fair lacing
s- surprisingly sweet and syrupy malty nose for a DIPA, tones of citrus and dark fruit, pine-based hops well in the background
t- initially dominated by caramel malts but quick transition to citrus and piney hops that quickly fades, minimal aftertaste characterized by syrupy sweet malts and alcohol, not the most balanced DIPA i have sampled recently but a decent showing
m- quite a heavy-bodied, thick DIPA with mild carbonation and a stiff alcohol presence that is not surprising given the abv
d- With a mouth-dropping abv, it would be hard to drink multiple servings in one session; 120minute reminds me more of a hoppy strong ale than the DIPAs I am used to on the west coast, $30 for a 4pack is quite a pricetag and there isn’t much uniqueness here for a return visit fidel (884), Livermore, California, USA Feb 9, 2009 Bistro DIPA Fest. Pours hazy golden yellow, sweet, caramel, malty, alcohol, little hops. timsilvia32 (445), from Michigan now in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA Feb 8, 2009 An impressive murky gold/orange pour. Very large white head. Aroma is powerful hops with some underlying citrus, grass and some sugar. Flavor is completely dominated by that sweetness. Syrupy honey, molasses and raisin. Not much citrus. Sticky/chewy mouthfeel in the heavy medium body. The hops really struggle to balance this out and pretty much can not do it. Does not finish nearly as sticky as it starts, is fairly clean. I actually liked this because it was nothing like an IPA, but if that’s what you’re looking for, this will not be for you. Definetely closer to an English Barleywine. lakersfan16 (53), Anchorage, Alaska, USA Feb 8, 2009 Pours a dark orange with an off white head. Aroma is intense, it smells amazing, almost like being in a flower garden. Flavor is very sweet, syrupy, and extremely hoppy. For the amount of hops and alcohol it is remarkably balanced. You need to try this at least once.
This IPA is extreme! Nik925 (300), California, USA Feb 8, 2009 Savory almost perfume aroma rolls off this one. Sweet buttered hops. Huge amounts of sugar remain. I can hardly believe it, but the ABV is almost hidden! 21% ???? Figs, candy. It almost burns the palate though. Stupiid strong. The tasting of this was the perfect size, I pint would be horrible.
