phish410 (3), Brown Deer, Wisconsin, USA does not count Jan 28, 2009 The 120 is certainly a great IPA, but I expected more. Doesn’t taste tremendously hoppy, in the traditional sense, almost fruity. Cloudy out of the bottle, smallish white head. The difference in price over the 90 minute isn’t justified to me. It’s better, but not by a lot. clong83 (243), San Diego, California, USA Jan 28, 2009 120 IBUs? They were in the nose, but not in the beer... Aroma of hops and dried fruits, apricots. Flavor of mostly sweet malts, apricots, and alcohol. This was the weirdest IPA I’ve had in a while. A great beer, especially considering it’s 21% alcohol. But as an IPA, it definitely came from left field. ansermadide (496), Kyle, Texas, USA Jan 25, 2009 Well done for a 21% brew. Ever tried making something 40 proof taste like a beer? Dogfish Head, makers of some great imperial IPAs, really pull it off with the 120. I remember the first time I tried a 120. What a surprise... it was strong and so wonderfully flavored. And the great thing is that over time it becomes easier and easier to drink, so you can really come to grow even fonder of its qualities. This is a man’s beer... a beauty to behold. mjs (1446), Helsinki, Finland Jan 25, 2009 (Bottle -- shared with three other beer geeks, thank you all -- at Pikkulintu. Helsinki, on 2009-01-23) Dark orange and hazy. Medium sized white head. Alcohol, malts, hops and excessive amounts of glue in aroma. Full bodied and quite alcohol filled palate with little carbonatio. Hops, bitterness, alchohol, malts, berries, sweetness and saltiness in taste. Saltiness, bitterness and hops in aftertaste. Not enjoyable at all. Anareon (12), Fairview Heights, Illinois, USA Jan 24, 2009 Bottle. Pours cloudy amber with small, white-coloured head. Aroma of hops. Heavy pine-like flavour, and almost no alcohol flavour, which is surprising considering the strength of this brew. This is a fantastic beer, and I wish it was a bit cheaper and more available. I would love to make this a regular occurence. sundevil27 (45), , New Jersey, USA Jan 24, 2009 wow this one packs a punch. Poured out of a bottle into a chimay glass. strong on the nose, but even stronger in the taste. Doesn’t taste hoppy in the standard sense, but very good none the less. UNCCTF (464), Kannapolis, North Carolina, USA Jan 24, 2009 Bottled. Aroma of hop and alcohol. Lots of pine in the flavor, with a finish that isn’t as aggressive as I thought it might be. Tasty. ceffalo (38), , Texas, USA Jan 24, 2009 Aroma is hoppy, with a strong sense of pine.
Color is orange-amber and there is almost no head from the snifter.
I’m a little frightened by this one!
Taste is strongly pine and very sweet. Delicious and satisfying. Hops are there if you know how to distinguish them. If it tastes of floral, though, do not worry. There is a delightful hoppiness in the finish.
