Commercial Description:
Too extreme to be called beer? Brewed to a colossal 45°P, boiled for a full 2 hours while being continually hopped with high alpha American hops, dry-hopped every day in the fermenter for a month, and aged for a month on whole leaf hops, 120 Minute IPA is by far the strongest IPA ever brewed. And at 21% ABV and 120 IBU’s, you can see why we are calling this the Holy Grail for Hopheads. Editors note: ABV reduced down to 18% in 2009.

Aroma is hoppy, with a strong sense of pine. Color is orange-amber and there is almost no head from the snifter. I’m a little frightened by this one! Taste is strongly pine and very sweet. Delicious and satisfying. Hops are there if you know how to distinguish them. If it tastes of floral, though, do not worry. There is a delightful hoppiness in the finish.

Pours an orange color with minimal head. The nose was very floral with a lot of hops. This one came across the palate rather smooth with minor hop characteristics in the taste. This one was a little on the sweet side for being an IPA. I will have to say it was a little disappointing; I was expecting a mouthful of hops & it had very little in the finish. Don’t get me wrong it was still good; it just wasn’t what I was expecting.

Great beer, wishing i bought 2, 3 or more but at 7.99 a pop - a little steep. thought it was a little sweet in the front a little bitter in the back and a little sour on the sides. a very complex beer that i will treat myself to again.

Thanks to some of my best customers, Brian and Dani, for this one! 12oz brown glass with pry-top. Bottled on 7/8/08. Appearance: Medium amber with a tan/white quarter-inch head. Head recedes quickly and leaves no lacing. Just a scattering of foam on the surface. Nose: Super sweet smelling (I know, I know, you can’t smell sugar). Aromas of dried figs, dates, dried flowers, white rose petals, something like cardboard (not faulted), dried orange peel. Palate: Immediately sweet and round mouthfeel. There’s a little prickle from the alcohol and a warming of the throat after swallowing. Flavors of dried figs, mango withpeel, dried papaya, aloe, hay, lemon, and dusty clay. There’s something that really reminds me of a nice sweet Madeira (Malmsey and Bual blend perhaps?). Notes: Although this monster is super sweet, it hides the 20% abv pretty well. I think there’s a lot of complexity on the palate, more than most critics want to admit to. Yes, it’s unbalanced, but who ever thought they were going for balance with a 2 hour boil and 45-degree plato? I tried this beer two years ago and thought it was marginally "overpriced," but my opinion has changed. I dig it and I think it’s worth the money.

Draft @ Capone’s Dec ’08: Poured an orange color with not much head. The aroma was hops and cotton candy. The flavor was excellent, fresh hops, sweet floral and very thick. Overall, a very tasty brew, but definitely a sipping brew.

Appearance: very cloudy reddish orange; virtually no head; whatever there is, it is an off-white Aroma: Well, you do get some alcohol; can have a bit of a nail-polish aroma mixed in with some hoppy citrus fruit; very complex and fascinating at the same time; it’s complex, but not all aromas inside are good ones Flavor: Once again, probably the best part to this beer; the citrus fruit from the massive hops finally comes to the front and center; probably about as good as the flavor can be given the massive size of this beer; seemingly infinite off-dry fruity finish; alcohol is noticeable but fairly well-balanced

Poured an opaque and almost cloudy amber/brown with almost no head. Nose is woody and hoppy at the same time. My friend said it reminded him of wood glue and I could definitely see where he was coming from. Some peach or mango also strewn in there. Tasting is an amazing experience of flavors. Hops up front balanced nicely with an almost sweet finish. The alcohol also slips in near the finish to let you know that this beer is not to be trifled with. The mouthfeel was fairly rich and heavy, definitely not a beer to finish in haste. Indeed, the warm feeling it left me made me think of sitting in front of a fire, snifter full just relaxing. Definitely worth checking out.
