The aroma was hops and cotton candy. The flavor was excellent, fresh hops, sweet floral and very thick. Overall, a very tasty brew, but definitely a sipping brew. mnovacanes (48), Munster, Indiana, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Jan 17, 2009 Updated: Jan 27, 2009Appearance: very cloudy reddish orange; virtually no head; whatever there is, it is an off-white
Aroma: Well, you do get some alcohol; can have a bit of a nail-polish aroma mixed in with some hoppy citrus fruit; very complex and fascinating at the same time; it’s complex, but not all aromas inside are good ones
Flavor: Once again, probably the best part to this beer; the citrus fruit from the massive hops finally comes to the front and center; probably about as good as the flavor can be given the massive size of this beer; seemingly infinite off-dry fruity finish; alcohol is noticeable but fairly well-balanced LarvalChemist (29), Lexington, Kentucky, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 17, 2009 Poured an opaque and almost cloudy amber/brown with almost no head.
Nose is woody and hoppy at the same time. My friend said it reminded him of wood glue and I could definitely see where he was coming from. Some peach or mango also strewn in there.
Tasting is an amazing experience of flavors. Hops up front balanced nicely with an almost sweet finish. The alcohol also slips in near the finish to let you know that this beer is not to be trifled with. The mouthfeel was fairly rich and heavy, definitely not a beer to finish in haste. Indeed, the warm feeling it left me made me think of sitting in front of a fire, snifter full just relaxing.
Definitely worth checking out. topherh (899), Kearney, Missouri, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 14, 2009 2006 Bottle pours hazy orange with no head. Lots of hops and hot alcohol in the nose. Flavor is very sweet caramel, alcohol, and hops. Very syrupy mouthfeel. Not all that good I prefer the 90 and 60 min IPAs nj4christ (26), Columbus, New Jersey, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 14, 2009 Bottle. Among the strongest beers I’ve had, it is also quite tasty. Pours a deep orange that leaves lacing on the glass. Very floral and smooth. Also sweet. It’ll leave your throat warm from the 21%. Only Dogfish Head is crazy enough to brew something like this. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 13, 2009 2006 Bottle. Pours an orangish-brown color with lots of particulate and with a thin creamy off-white head that fades quickly leaving a few watery streaks of lacing. Aroma is very floral, alcohol notes - almost medicinal, earthiness, and caramel malts. Mouthfeel is creamy and smooth. It is syrupy and very sweet - almost has a medicinal quality to it. Not very hoppy or bitter at all but leaves alcohol warmth. Not as bad as I thought it would be. cgras13 (2), Elkhart, Indiana, USA does not count | 1.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 1/10 | 1/5 | 2/20 | Jan 13, 2009 From a bottle purchased and consumed 11-09-08. Had to take it back to the LQ and get a refund. Most sour nasty beer I have ever tried. The Store I purchased from has good knowledge on celleraring.
Quite sure from reading the reviews that this beer is not intended to taste that way.

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 9, 2009 Though I’ve had this on tap, rating on this is from a bottle since I didn’t take notes on it from the tap. Also saved rating it for rating 120. Pours a deep gently hazed amber, akin to a thick dark honey. Medium thin white head which fades quickly. Slight lacing on the glass. Aroma is redolent with hops and sweet malt with a slight caramel note. Mouthfeel is thick and smooth with very gentle carbonation. Finish is gentle without the huge amount of bitterness one associates generally with IPAs. There is a big hoppy note to any belches that invariably occur later though, so the hops certainly are in there. Though there is a huge warming alcohol rush, it’s much less kick filled than the 20%+ ABV would suggest.
