JCastner (102), New York, USA Dec 28, 2008 Pours a cloudy deep copper. Aroma of fruit, brown sugar, and alcohol. Taste at the front is intensely sweet, almost cloying, followed by a short bitter wine-like dryness. Finish is of plums and warming alcohol. Nice effort. This is the favorite of my wife. Perhaps a bit too strong to pair with a meal. trayns (237), Beverly Hills, Michigan, USA Dec 28, 2008 Updated: Feb 24, 2009On tap at Ashleys in Ann Arbor. Hard to explain. . Forget what you though of beer when your try this. The aroma and consistency was unlike anything you have had. Think a big, strong imperial stout but blonde and golden, and of course hoppy. One beer that should be on everyones beer bucket list . . a must try. pollardjt (26), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Dec 26, 2008 Pours hazy orange color with a thin head. Aromas of orange, hops, spice, and alcohol abound. Thick and rich mouthfeel, almost syrupy. There is some sweetness in the flavor, but its not overpowering, and is a nice offset to the bitterness of the hops, as well as the orange zest and spice. Everything seems to play off of everything else perfectly. A GREAT BEER. TearsforBeers (170), Ohio, USA Dec 25, 2008 Pours a very hazy pumpkin orange with an inch of disappearing off white head from an aggressive pour.
Aroma is some hops, sweet mead, and ALCOHOL
The flavor of this beer is nowhere near what I had hoped, at least in this bottle. Extremely sweet, alcoholic, and mead-like in a slghtly unpleasant way. The hops are only evident in the finish.
Mouthfeel is syrupy, thick, and very warming.
Overall, the other reviews of this brew make me wonder if I got an old bottle. The alcohol is very present, but the hops are nowhere near the level claimed in the description, likely because of the intense sweetness and alcohol. I came looking for crazy hops, and this bottle did not deliver. DalzAle (474), Eden Prairie, Minnesota, USA Dec 24, 2008 A gift from my brother in law this year, thanks Neil. Pour was a very hazy apricot color with nice carbonation. Aroma was awesome, orange, alcohol and TONS OF HOPS. Flavor was heavy on the hops, was rich in citrus and had a slick mouthfeel and a very warming alcohol finish. An asskicker of a beer to be shared, do not do this one alone. Overall, one of my top 5 *special occasion* beers. CheersMate1 (766), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Dec 24, 2008 Nice fluffy head. Not really filtered. Nice orange haze color. Very pungent. Alcohol and hops. Nice citrus aroma. Love the aroma. It is very pungent. The aroma is also very crisp. This beer also has a nice malt aroma to it. Whoa! The flavor is very alcoholic. The beer is hoppy, but the alcohol just burns all the way down. Also, the $10 price tag was not fun either. This beer has a nice hoppy flavor, once you get by the alcohol. Not a bad aroma, but as far as flavor goes, hard to enjoy the hops with all of the alcohol. This is borderline novelty. fonefan (10868), VestJylland, Denmark Dec 22, 2008 Bottle. Unclear orange color with a average, creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, heavy to harsh hoppy, orange, pine, resin. Flavor is heavy to harsh sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium to full, texture is syrupy, carbonation is flat. Very very hoppy, way too hot, alcohol just comes through as a burn. Very difficult to actually drink. (120908) harpsm (24), Maryland, USA Dec 21, 2008 Draft at Dogfish Head Alehouse. Served in a snifter. Murky, cloudy orange-brown color with no head. First whiff was an offputting (but intriguing) nosefull of nail polish with a mix of citrus and tannic fruit. Thankfully, less nail polish in the flavor, which is a jumble of sweet fruit with amazingly little bitterness. As it warmed, banana flavor began to emerge and dominate. This beer is almost syrupy on the palate with warm alcohol but doesnt burn going down despite its high alcohol content.
