ChristianScheffel (4431), Odense, Denmark Oct 5, 2008 Updated: Oct 12, 2008Cloudy amber with a lasting off-white head. Intense hops and alcohol aroma. Peaches, grass and orange are the most prominent hoppy aromas, and the alcohol is rich barleywine-like prunes and sherry, along with a strong note of gin. It’s very sweet with hot alcohol, but an intense orange and grapefruit American hop flavour and bitterness balances very well. It has a little gin in the flavour as well, and a lasting aftertaste that’s surprisingly malty.
It’s not an everyday drinker, obviously, but it’s a lot of fun. And impressive that such a brew can be made at all and still be undeniably beer. Skinnyviking (4142), Copenhagen, Denmark Oct 5, 2008 Bottle. Low fluffy but lasting off-white head. Hazy orange body. Sweet fruity hoppy aroma with alcohol notes. Well I am reading the below rating of harrisoni and disagree with him about the drinkability. Sure the beer is hoppy but still I can taste the fruityness what was worrying me more was the high alcohol percentage. It is indeed tastablble but not to an extent that makes it too much of a good thing. The low carbonation and the long aftertaste makes it a very good beer in my opinion. harrisoni (6703), Ashford, Kent, England Oct 4, 2008 Bottle at EBF 08. Very very hoppy. Way too hot. Very difficult to actually drink. Alcohol just comes through as a burn. Gingerish hot. Some tangerine, crystallised fruit. Too much heat. More or less does settle down to a hot tangerine toddy. daviddm (4), USA does not count Oct 4, 2008 A wonderfully strong and sweet Imperial IPA.
This Imperial IPA is far sweeter then anything I have ever had before in a IPA. At first it comes on as a surprise but finishes as a unique experience that you want to repeat.
Aroma is fruity with hints of apricots. Color is a traditional golden color expected in a Imperial IPA that is not too opaque. Flavor is also has hints of ripe or dried apricots and grapefruit with distinct but not strong hop bitterness.
Overall this beer came as a surprise, I was expecting a strong hop bitterness but the sweetness was overwhelming, not in a bad way though. Hansen (2235), Randers, Denmark Oct 1, 2008 Light amber colour. Clear. Has an off-white head, mostly diminishing. Very hopped aroma, grapefruit and rubber. Flavor starts bitter and moderate sweet, finish is harsh bitter. Long duration. Full body. Oily texture, flat carbonation. Harsh alcohol. shigadeyo (2210), Harrison, Ohio, USA Sep 29, 2008 2006 Vintage
9/29/2008: Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA has a big bouquet of aged citrus fruit, sugary toffee, and a hint of gin. The color is coppery honey and quite clear. The biege crown makes an appearnce after the pours, but fades away pretty quickly. The flavor is sweet in the at first an showcases the malt. Dried and aged fruits such as dates, prunes, apricot, and sweet citrus then come through. The sweetness intensity is actually well-controlled and balanced. The bitterness is quite subdued at this point, but that’s acutally okay by me. I like a sweeter beer anyways! There is also notes hints of vanilla and the caramel quality intesifies and gets richers as the beer warms. The apricot gets more juicy as well. The alcohol is extremely buried amongst the other flavors and and makes no appearance in the aroma or flavor and doesn’t even burn (until it gets warmer). The strength complements the sweetness well provides a good warm feeling. Damn, this stuff is even more dangerous than the DFH 90 Minute Imperial IPA! Its medium-full body is smooth and soft on the palate as well as slightly syrupy lightly sticky on the lips. This is an extremely impressive brew. This was my first and I will definitely be back again!
Comparison to DFH 90 Minute Imperial IPA... More golden in color, but not too much different in appearance otherwise. Excellent sweetness without being too much and a much more refined and aged fruit/citrus flavor. Less bitterness overall, but still obsessively habit forming! A lot like fine sweet port or something...

darn1207 (529), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Sep 29, 2008 Rating #300. bottle - picked this up from new beer distributors in manhattan (hadn’t seen it for less than 10 bucks and they had it for 7 - awesome bottleshop). aroma is strong grass and apricot citrus - smells like spirits. hazy medium orange color. sweet malt and hop fruit taste quickly becomes a sharp bitterness. alcohol is warm but not hot - which is impressive enough. it’s definitely intense - can’t say I’ve had anything quite like it. may be the definition of a sipp’n brew. K8.5 rds (224), USA Sep 29, 2008 Misty ambrosia body with a thin, near white head, the floral notes and hops careen around the glass, easily absorbed notwithstanding fall allergies. It’s smooth, but you must savor the complexity, and respect the alcohil, which is not unnoticeable. Wow..I’ve never had a brew like this. And I like it!
