9/29/2008: Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA has a big bouquet of aged citrus fruit, sugary toffee, and a hint of gin. The color is coppery honey and quite clear. The biege crown makes an appearnce after the pours, but fades away pretty quickly. The flavor is sweet in the at first an showcases the malt. Dried and aged fruits such as dates, prunes, apricot, and sweet citrus then come through. The sweetness intensity is actually well-controlled and balanced. The bitterness is quite subdued at this point, but that’s acutally okay by me. I like a sweeter beer anyways! There is also notes hints of vanilla and the caramel quality intesifies and gets richers as the beer warms. The apricot gets more juicy as well. The alcohol is extremely buried amongst the other flavors and and makes no appearance in the aroma or flavor and doesn’t even burn (until it gets warmer). The strength complements the sweetness well provides a good warm feeling. Damn, this stuff is even more dangerous than the DFH 90 Minute Imperial IPA! Its medium-full body is smooth and soft on the palate as well as slightly syrupy lightly sticky on the lips. This is an extremely impressive brew. This was my first and I will definitely be back again!
Comparison to DFH 90 Minute Imperial IPA... More golden in color, but not too much different in appearance otherwise. Excellent sweetness without being too much and a much more refined and aged fruit/citrus flavor. Less bitterness overall, but still obsessively habit forming! A lot like fine sweet port or something...

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 29, 2008 Misty ambrosia body with a thin, near white head, the floral notes and hops careen around the glass, easily absorbed notwithstanding fall allergies. It’s smooth, but you must savor the complexity, and respect the alcohil, which is not unnoticeable. Wow..I’ve never had a brew like this. And I like it! hubcrawler (36), , Virginia, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 28, 2008 This beer poured an opaque amber color with a good sized sustainable head. Had very stong floral scents and very hoppy. However, the flavor was overwhelmingly sweet which inhibited the hoppiness to come through. Actually appreciated the aroma of this beer more than the flavor. This was a tough rate. Montag (15), , Texas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 27, 2008 Strong beer, delightfully hoppy, but sweet to the point of being offputting. Not much head, but that’s not a negative. The 120 minute hopping certainly gave it a heck of a flavor, but appreciating it through the incredible sweetness was no easy task. A work of flawed genius if there ever was one. bobbypaulson (100), , Minnesota, USA

I actaully was happy to get my hands on a case of this fine stuff and the brewery they were a little leary about selling me a whole case but then finally just gave in. WOW the hops in this are crazy it’s a knock you on the floor beer. Great over all coming from a guy who is inlove with hopps. elihapa (1046), Honolulu, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 25, 2008 6oz draft pour for $5 at Eli Cannon’s, CT. Pours an orange color with a small head. Looks formidable in that small glass! Aroma is surprisingly rich of floral bouquet. I didn’t expect an aroma that so serenely masked the high alcohol of this brew. Flavor initially was high in alcohol, again a surprising trait because it soon subsided into rich, hoppy flavor. Otherwise, this “extreme” beer was really quite normal. There was pine. There was a touch of grapefruit. There was enough sweetness to make this hop-drink quaffable. I can’t knock this beer, but really, there are better-made impy IPAs out there (including DFH 90 minute). Holy grail for hop-heads? Try holy grail for extreme beerists.
