Commercial Description:
Too extreme to be called beer? Brewed to a colossal 45°P, boiled for a full 2 hours while being continually hopped with high alpha American hops, dry-hopped every day in the fermenter for a month, and aged for a month on whole leaf hops, 120 Minute IPA is by far the strongest IPA ever brewed. And at 21% ABV and 120 IBU’s, you can see why we are calling this the Holy Grail for Hopheads. Editors note: ABV reduced down to 18% in 2009.

Bottle. Hazy orange/yellow color with very little head. Smells of citrus and tastes similar with a slight alchoal burn.

. I live in southeastern Michigan, and I guess they had some issues shipping the beer, as it was supposed to be here a week ago. Well, it’s finally here, and it is INSANE! I just cracked the brand new 2008 bottle, and took a few sips. This beer deserves all of the accolades and hype that I’ve seen and heard. It pours a heavy/hazy amber orange, which is very deceptive. The flavor and aroma is what really sets this beer apart from any that I’ve had in the past. It’s basically on par with Expedition stout, as far as heavyness, and level of obvious genius. It’s basically all hops, plus some more hops, plus some sweetness, and a little alcohol burn. Cheers to Dogfish Head for continually meeting, and exceeding my expectations.

The Imperial IPA. Amber colour. The aroma is of alcohol and a lot of hops, but also some acidly perhaps a bit of sour - not that hoppy - is it old? The flavor is hoppy, but not that much it’s also acidly and there is of course alcohol too.

Bottled at EBF 2008. Clear amber, medium white head. Strongly alcoholic and sugary, with loads of piney and citric hops. Heavy in body, sweet and cloying. Hugely overrated.

Bottle. Pours clear orange with a little off-white head. Nose of caramel, malt an alcohol. Sweet flavour with alcohol, port and overriped fruit. Full bodied. Pleasant bitter finish, again with alcohol. OK.

Bottle @ EBF Golden color. Aroma is boooooozy! Taste was lots of tropicfruits and a bit spicy. Alcohol can be found everywhere but still a pretty smooth mouthfeel.

At EBF 2008, Friday September 12
Clear golden color, tan head. Acidic, sour almost, spicy and citrus scent. Smooth citrus and malty with alcohol taste. Smooth mouthfeel, high bitterness.
