Commercial Description:
Too extreme to be called beer? Brewed to a colossal 45°P, boiled for a full 2 hours while being continually hopped with high alpha American hops, dry-hopped every day in the fermenter for a month, and aged for a month on whole leaf hops, 120 Minute IPA is by far the strongest IPA ever brewed. And at 21% ABV and 120 IBU’s, you can see why we are calling this the Holy Grail for Hopheads. Editors note: ABV reduced down to 18% in 2009.

6oz draft pour for $5 at Eli Cannon’s, CT. Pours an orange color with a small head. Looks formidable in that small glass! Aroma is surprisingly rich of floral bouquet. I didn’t expect an aroma that so serenely masked the high alcohol of this brew. Flavor initially was high in alcohol, again a surprising trait because it soon subsided into rich, hoppy flavor. Otherwise, this “extreme” beer was really quite normal. There was pine. There was a touch of grapefruit. There was enough sweetness to make this hop-drink quaffable. I can’t knock this beer, but really, there are better-made impy IPAs out there (including DFH 90 minute). Holy grail for hop-heads? Try holy grail for extreme beerists.

Bottle thanks to mmm///beer. I had a cool experience with this beer going to a ’how to brew beer’ class tonight. I decided to bring a beer with me, and this was the only beer in my fridge that was cold. Needless to day, the class was surprised when I finished a 20% beer in just over an hour! Pours a dark amber color with a small off-white head. The aroma was very nice; tons of sweet candy, fruit, and hop notes. I was really surprised by how drinkable this was, I don’t want to suggest that it was with a huge alcohol presence, but it was made so well that the alcohol fit in well to the overall taste. Lots of grapefruit, some pine, a smooth and very sweet malt. Very enjoyable. My favorite DFH.

Bottle at EBF. Clear dark amber - white head. High sweetness, vegetables, high alcoholic, vinous, nice bitterness, no fresh hoppiness. A bit simple. The body is not as sticky and powerfull as I expected.

Bottle. Yowzas. what a treat!! Pours a glowing orange. Strong hop and sugar aromas. Flavors are full, hops to spare, candy-like tones. The alcohol flavor doesn’t hit until the finish. Very very sweet hops. I really like this one. I need to get another bottle so I can age it!

Great apple cider orange color. Citrus and plum without an alcohol aroma. There is also some kind of exotic tea smell, and a hint of deep fried fish. The flavor is of apricot and wine, brandy and carmel. Amazing hops with a dry finish, actually leaving the mouth too dry. Well worth sharing with friends as something truely unique.
