rbod (25), Davie, Florida, USA Aug 26, 2008 This IPA, is quite boozy, but amazing. You still get a full hoppy flavor. Definitely recommend. PaulHegedus (458), Georgetown, Ontario, Canada Aug 26, 2008 Bottle, July 2008. Pours amber with a small, understated head. The alcohol taste is strong. Interesting how at this intensity, the hops give way to finer, less bitter flavours: more sweet and sugary. Don’t get me wrong, the hop bitterness is still there though. The alcohol is well masked considering its intensity, but wow, I still feel like that was the most prominent flavour. 502Flavors (617), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Aug 24, 2008 12 oz into sniffer. Great hazy copper pour with a huge off white creamy head that settles down to about a quarter inch and then holds pretty well. Very fresh and complexly hoppy aroma - resinous and citrus whole leaf fresh hops. The flavor is unique; it has a very sweet malt character like an old ale (without the soy) upfront that is balanced out by the huge amount of hops. I would be interested to see how this ages because I would imagine that it would calm down the almost overly sweet malt character while, at the same time, diminishing the hop character. Very heavy and thick for the style on the palate - heavy/full bodied. The alcohol is hidden so unbelievably well - tastes like a 9% with well hidden alcohol... none on the tongue and some warmth in the stomach. Overall: not the greatest IIPA, but so uniwue that it must be tried. arondee (173), Tucson, Arizona, USA Aug 24, 2008 $9 12 oz bottle given to me for my birthday this year. Wow this beer didn’t disappoint. Nothing like the 60 minute or 90 minute. It’s much maltier, and although the hops are also very much present, the honey malt flavor and sweetness takes over. You have to take your time with this beer. As it warms up the alcohol becomes more noticeable. If it weren’t so expensive I’d have bottles of this in my fridge. I have to say this is probably my new favorite beer. It’s a shame I’ll only be able to afford to drink it 2 or 3 times a year. gotohelunc (473), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Aug 23, 2008 Bottle. Orange/khaki colored, small white head, and really cloudy. The least translucent light colored beer I’ve ever seen. Unique nose of oranges, cloves, sweet hops, and of course...alcohol. The flavor completely masks the alcohol, leaving it tasting of fruit, some hops, brown sugar, syrup, banana...and probably more that I’m forgetting. It was nowhere near the hop bomb of bitterness I was expecting, more of a strange, enjoyable citrusy sweet beverage. It’s definitely a slow sipper and went great with slightly spicy food. I enjoyed this and would certainly like to get it again. Soonah (900), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Aug 23, 2008 From mcbackus via trade. The pour was a clear dark copper color with a scant white to off-white head. The aroma was lots of hops, sugary sweet malt, floral notes and some alcohol. The flavor was sugary malts, floral and pine hops and some surprisingly well balanced alcohol heat. Thick, chewy mouthfeel. More easily tamed than what I had built up in my head. MesandSim (5790), London, Greater London, England Aug 23, 2008 A Mes rate: bottle from Spec’s in Houston. An awesome red brown colour thin tan rim. Heavy plastic and rubber, some soy, molasses and dark fruit. Massive alcohol though it’s hard to tell it actually is alcohol when it gets to this strength rather than it being some mad pungent fruit like you have never experienced. Massive sugary alcohol. It’s just all over powered by the stuff. All mouth no trousers. Impressive but I just can’t enjoy drinking it. There is a lot I like about it, it’s just not going down well and the huge hops and bitterness I was expecting is almost completely overpowered by the alcohol. enginaaron (73), San Diego, California, USA Aug 23, 2008 Holy hot dogs... wow this was intense. Huge alcohol, hops, and age in the nose. An overwhelmingly high malt sweetness that is not hot with alcohol, but still has a strong alcohol taste. Strong caramel, vanilla, and rich mixed fruit, leaning more towards oranges. Overall a very tasty brew. Strong esters compliment the strong hops, and even take forefront, I believe. Good, a sipper, but a good brew I will have again...
