Commercial Description:
Too extreme to be called beer? Brewed to a colossal 45°P, boiled for a full 2 hours while being continually hopped with high alpha American hops, dry-hopped every day in the fermenter for a month, and aged for a month on whole leaf hops, 120 Minute IPA is by far the strongest IPA ever brewed. And at 21% ABV and 120 IBU’s, you can see why we are calling this the Holy Grail for Hopheads. Editors note: ABV reduced down to 18% in 2009.

i’ve had this beer more than a few times. first time to rate it and i must say that i enjoy this beer more each time i drink it. it has the most unique hop tastes of any ipa i know of. caramel in color with little to no lacing. smells a bit oaky but does not reflect that smell i n the taste. extremely well balanced for the abv. not an every day drinker, but most definitely something to savor again and again.

Same sticky cloying sweetness as the World Wide Stout. Same science-experiment-in-the-making ABV. Did they get candi sugar on sale and dump it all into those two beers? Not at all drinkable or enjoyable.

12oz Bottle pours a "Tigers eye’ color (as described by wifey) with a miniscule head. Aromas of Pine, apples, and band aids, even some acetone?!?! Flavors of apples and citrus and surprisingly LITTLe hops/bitterness. For the "Holy Grail of Hopheads’ Im rather disappointed in the hops that come through. It does however hide the alcohol VERY well.

Good lord. Even after reading about and hunting this one down, I’m still not sure I was ready for it. Pours an opaque sunset orange with a skin of bubbles for a head and some chunky lacing. Aroma is so far beyond anything else I’ve tried. The phrases pickled hop juice comes to mind. It’s like a combination between a hopsack and embalming fluid, and I do mean that in a good way. Sour apples, watermelon, even nail polish all show up in some form. Blood orange and ruby grapefruit start off the palate, before a strong liqueur warmth spreads across the tongue. It takes a while to acclimate, at which point the beer’s intense IBUs become rather apparent in a resiny flourish in the finish. Not something I could drink on a regular basis, but I’m quite glad I tried it.

Bottle sampled at NFB&WF ’08 at Martha Clara Vineyards. I believe this is my second highest rating for the festival. Pours a mostly clear gold. Lots of pine in the aroma along with some citrus and apple. The flavor is very good with nice, rich resinous pine along with malt, apples and just a bit of citrus. Some warming from the alcohol, but nowhere near the 21% abv. Well crafted and enjoyable.

Pours hazy golden color with minimal white head. Orange alcoholic aroma with a sweet fruity note. Large burst of sweet fruity hops, big warming of the mouth unparalleled with any other beer. More of a liqueur than a beer. Great!
