HonkeyBra (1262), Lemont, Illinois, USA Jul 9, 2008 Ok. I remember discovering this beer about a year ago and scoffed at the price, but I knew, someday, I would buy this beer. I finally gave in today because dudebra was bragging about it. Yeah, it’s ridiculous. The 21% isn’t all that detectable, until you stand up. This smells like hops, and tastes like hops. Crazy hops, huge hops. Like eating raw hops. Oh, and a lot of sweet malt. This ale is so unique, it’s definitely something you have to try at least once. juiceisloose (634), Windermere, Florida, USA Jul 7, 2008 2008 bottle. Pours a deep amber color with a thin white head that dissiaptes quickly. The aroma shows notes of pine resin, big piney hops, candy sugar, and alcohol. The flavor was much the same with the huge piney hop presence to go with some citrus fruit and big dose of candy sugar and malts to sweeten things up. The alcohol was balanced as well as it could be, but was still present throughout. Everything about this beer is extreme from the hop bitterness to the alcohol. Full bodied with a thick syrupy mouthfeel with the alcohol warmth felt all the way down. It would take me awhile to go through a whole bottle of this. I’d like to see what some age would do to this though. This is really well crafted and something I would revisit on special occasions. jkaiser (212), Orlando, Florida, USA Jul 5, 2008 This beer will knock you on your ass. If the Incredible Hulk drank, this would be the only beer he would reach for. Wave after wave, 7 in all, after every sip hit me with the powerful flavor of cloudy orange colored hops. Took me 2.5 hours to finish on July 4th 08 lweiberg (89), Eagan, Minnesota, USA Jul 5, 2008 Amberish color and not too thick. Reminded me of a less imposing version of Bell’s Hopslam, and the 21% sure didn’t seem like it as I was able to drink this and a Dead Guy ale without getting completely wasted. Not at all worth close to $10 but if you’re someone who’s just gotta try the high ABV ales then this one certainly is appealing, at least in that you’ll have experienced something with lots of booze in it that still tastes good. dkachur (2313), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Jul 4, 2008 Slightly aged bottle sampled at work. Hazy orange color with a creamy, medium head. Aroma is malt with floral and citrus hop notes. Very malty taste with toffee, maple notes and a citrus hop bite. Very thick and syrupy feel. Alcohol is slightly noticeable, but nowhere near what it actually is. CaryTheDude (1113), Longmont, Colorado, USA Jul 4, 2008 Can’t describe this. Can’t taste the alcohol but you can certainly feel it...especially on an empty stomach. Oh my God, I’m in heaven. mcox90 (617), Wilton, USA Jul 4, 2008 12 oz bottle aged 1 year. Pours a hazy reddish amber color w/o much of a head or lacing. Nose is heavy sweetness and dark fruity aromas, quite complex. Nice full, thick, chewy palate with just a touch of carbonation. Now to try and discuss the flavors. Just about everythings in here. Brown sugar, caramel, plums, dates, figs, hops, and of coarse, alcohol. This really wasn’t the hop bomb I expected it to be. Maybe its because I let it age for a year. If I ever get another one, I’ll drink it fresh, then again, maybe I’ll let it age 5 years. natejgood (188), Denver, Colorado, USA Jul 3, 2008 Pours a medium amber with a medium white head. The beer is a bit hazy to look through. So the aroma is a bit strange. I poured the bottle into two clean glasses. One smells like wasabi and soy sauce and the other smells like fruit (both sweet and sour). One glass was also much sweeter than the other. I guess I shouldn’t have split the bottle. Still, both glasses have good flavor. This beer has a much more complex flavor than the 60 minute or 90 minute (both of which I love). It is a very good sipping beer, but it probably isn’t going to cure your thirst on a hot day. Definitely worth a try for anyone who likes a flavorful beer.
