Commercial Description:
Too extreme to be called beer? Brewed to a colossal 45°P, boiled for a full 2 hours while being continually hopped with high alpha American hops, dry-hopped every day in the fermenter for a month, and aged for a month on whole leaf hops, 120 Minute IPA is by far the strongest IPA ever brewed. And at 21% ABV and 120 IBU’s, you can see why we are calling this the Holy Grail for Hopheads. Editors note: ABV reduced down to 18% in 2009.

Pours a medium amber with a medium white head. The beer is a bit hazy to look through. So the aroma is a bit strange. I poured the bottle into two clean glasses. One smells like wasabi and soy sauce and the other smells like fruit (both sweet and sour). One glass was also much sweeter than the other. I guess I shouldn’t have split the bottle. Still, both glasses have good flavor. This beer has a much more complex flavor than the 60 minute or 90 minute (both of which I love). It is a very good sipping beer, but it probably isn’t going to cure your thirst on a hot day. Definitely worth a try for anyone who likes a flavorful beer.

Yellow cap, 2007 bottle I believe. Pours a rosy amber with a thin off white head. Aroma has a very sweet fruity malt flavor coupled with hops in the background. A bit of caramel, white grape, and alcohol in there as well. Extremely sweet flavor, more of that fruit and caramel, reminds me of a barley wine. The alcohol is there, but surprisingly well hidden for 21%. Not much hoppiness to this, dont know why they call it the holy grail for hopheads. Definitely a sipper.

Bottle as a gift from Mother-In-Law! Pours a murky brown and gold colour with a small white head. Nice aroma of citrus hops that hint at pineapple, plus a little alcohol heat. Not the huge hop blast in the flavour I was expecting. Very citrusy hops and plus more alcohol. Honestly not my favourite but extra points for trying something original and different. Nice to try but one bottle was enough.

Always fun to get a beer like this. Not the huge alcohol taste I was expecting, but bis nonetheless. A bit oily, I could almost see it in the glass. Went down pretty smooth though, I’ll have another

Serious, almost milky, chill haze. Aroma is definitely hoppy big and available, but honestly it doesn’t outdo other big IPA’s. Flavor bites the tongue hard, unbelievable bitterness, strong heavy alcohol and big citrus punch. Definitely a monster and DEFINNITELY not to drink on all night, but a second one might be nice.... might be.

Ah yes, the Incredible Hulk of all IPA’s. Just pop the crown and take a sniff and you will immediately know you’re in for a hefty smack right upside the head. Pours a slightly cloudy amber-orange color with a paper thin beige head. Amazingly with the alcohol content this thin foam layer persists throughout the snifter. No lacing as expected. Just a huge, complex and unusual aroma profile running the gauntlet from Sugar Daddy caramel candy, American "C" hop resins and sinus clearing ethanol to leather, bourbon, cedar and ripe red apples. Palate is quite full and pleasantly slick for such a strong brew. Just the right touch of CO2 is subtely perceived. Flavors much like the nose; a bit all over the place and distracting but so unique you can’t help but admire it. Just a huge but well balanced conglomeration of sweet caramel malt and fruit notes combined with a firm citrus, pineapple hop presence. No overlooking the alcohol here. Gotta go slow and easy and just sip away and enjoy. I love big beers, but couldn’t imagine doing 2 in one night!!

Dogfish head really out did themselves with this one, IPA lovers rejoice. The 120 Minute IPA is a very smooth beer for the high alcohol content. Pours with a rich apricot color and a thin head. It has the aroma of sweet, citrus fruit and hops. It is a thick beer with a sweet, yet hoppy taste. It is much sweeter than the 90 Minute IPA (I am guessing that is due to the barrel aging), more potent too. Definitely a sipping beer. My favorite, Fo sho! Second rating: 04/02/2009. Still as good as I remembered. However it was thicker than I remembered, which is not a bad thing. A great beer if you are a fan of a sweeter IPA.

This drink is very potent, I thought that it tasted like a boilermaker, a really good boilermaker. Other flavors were obviously hops, they only dedicated the whole label with one huge hop, and I believe lemon-citrus. The drink is very cloudy, almost opaque, orange/apricot in color with little to no head. A friend of mine could not handle the potency of this brew so I lucked into drinking two of these for the price of one.
