abcfan (244), New Jersey, USA Jun 8, 2008 Pours hazy amber orange with a nice white head. Aromas hit you with notes of grapefruit, caramel and bubblegum. Has a strong grapefruit/bubblegum/pear taste to it. Finish is very bittersweet with acidic burning pear notes. Really enjoyed this, would drink again. robertjm (399), El Cerrito, California, USA Jun 6, 2008 Good hop aroma. Very obviously american hop varieties. Pours a thick head, which quickly collapses down to a MM thick foam layer. Very cloudy brown. Bottle had been sitting in the fridge for months, and left a layer of muck in the bottle, but its still got cloudy charactor. Alcohol very present (better damn be at 21%!!), yet a very malty-raisiny flavor when you first start sipping it. Quick warmth along back of throat after drinking. Hops in the aftertaste lingering on the palate for quite some time. A trully amazing experience! Just consumed my only bottle, but friend is visiting Maryland so will have him grab another bottle while he’s there! I enjoy EKU 28, with all its maltyness, but this is even better with all the bops that balance that malt out. A real winner!!! nmouncey (6), Indiana, USA does not count Jun 5, 2008 Resembles a good German Weizen in appearance, very cloudy and orange hue to it. White head. Aroma of lemons. Taste is orange marmelade, sweet, yet quite bitter. Has some spiceness to it. Would benefit from some ageing. I’ll definitely do that with my next bottle. A special beer to be savoured. joekinty (263), rockledge, Florida, USA Jun 4, 2008 2007 pours a nice brassy color nicewhite head shared with Dr. beer and 2 other saaz members b bennet mack monroe at coasters fragrant aroma malty and citrus hops . weird but i really enjoyed it trevor211 (499), Seattle, Washington, USA Jun 4, 2008 Unbelievable. And not necessarily in a good way. It’s so far over the top that it almost makes you laugh. Pours a murky light amber (very opaque), with a good head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is (surprise!) *all* hops. It smells as if someone took a fresh handful of hops and crushed it below my nose. The flavor, surprisingly, doesn’t follow suit - there’s so much sweet malt brewed in that the hops don’t shine quite as brightly - though they’re *definitely* still there in full force. It is certainly sweet - like a distilled essence of the word bittersweet - and there’s no way to hide the 21%. As thick and syrupy as this brew is, it still burns quite a bit. It’s entertaining, for sure (especially toward the bottom of the glass, as the 21% kicks in... if you can get that far)... but this isn’t something to drink a full glass of on any regular basis. It’s just too much. Maybe one 12-oz. bottle split into sipping glasses for 4-6 people. A fun one to try, though, and it gets points for novelty! wxman (582), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA Jun 4, 2008 Pours a cloudy orange with a decent but brief large bead off-white head. Aroma is hop flowers and hard candy along with a bit of alcohol. Taste is very busy. Has some medicinal qualities along with burnt sugar, sour fruit, hop bitterness and a lip-numbing sense/taste of alcohol. Very interesting, but I don’t think this will become regular fare, especially because of the price! IPAaLLtHEwAY (136), La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA Jun 4, 2008 I loved the 90 min. This however not so much. The sweetness of it is over-powering. Love what they were going for though. ThunderChicken (10), Texas, USA Jun 3, 2008 Im a hop head, but the sweetness of this beer kills the hops for me. There are enough to come across, but the rich sweetness is almost cloying to me. I bought a case and will comtinue to try 2 or 3 a year like i do with old foghorn and bigfoot. Sam says it ages well, but i can only imagine it becoming more sweet when the hop aroma goes away,
