Commercial Description:
Too extreme to be called beer? Brewed to a colossal 45°P, boiled for a full 2 hours while being continually hopped with high alpha American hops, dry-hopped every day in the fermenter for a month, and aged for a month on whole leaf hops, 120 Minute IPA is by far the strongest IPA ever brewed. And at 21% ABV and 120 IBU’s, you can see why we are calling this the Holy Grail for Hopheads. Editors note: ABV reduced down to 18% in 2009.

Since the hops take a backseat to the sweet (and very drinkable) alcohol I wouldn’t say this was the ’Holy Grail’. However this beer was delicious and will quickly put you in a good mood.

Love the aroma and the color. For the hoppy description of the brewing it really didn’t deliver the bite I was expecting. It was a little syrupier (add that to websters) than I’m used to on the palate, but the flavor was very complex with plenty of fruits to find. It grew on me as I drank it more and more. Hope that wasn’t just the 21% clouding my judgement.

Not a big hop head, but of course I had to try this ’legendary’ beer, so this sampling was an ’08 vintage. It’s a lot more drinkable than I would have thought as well. Nice orange/bronze collar with an off-white head. Was surprised how sweet this beer could be, and very little alcohol tase for being 20%+ abv. Not a fan of the aftertaste, which sneaks up and burns somewhat though. It’s one of those beers that I enjoy, but only a few times a year. But overall, very impressed.

Pours hazy amber orange with a nice white head. Aromas hit you with notes of grapefruit, caramel and bubblegum. Has a strong grapefruit/bubblegum/pear taste to it. Finish is very bittersweet with acidic burning pear notes. Really enjoyed this, would drink again.

Good hop aroma. Very obviously american hop varieties. Pours a thick head, which quickly collapses down to a MM thick foam layer. Very cloudy brown. Bottle had been sitting in the fridge for months, and left a layer of muck in the bottle, but its still got cloudy charactor. Alcohol very present (better damn be at 21%!!), yet a very malty-raisiny flavor when you first start sipping it. Quick warmth along back of throat after drinking. Hops in the aftertaste lingering on the palate for quite some time. A trully amazing experience! Just consumed my only bottle, but friend is visiting Maryland so will have him grab another bottle while he’s there! I enjoy EKU 28, with all its maltyness, but this is even better with all the bops that balance that malt out. A real winner!!!
