LisaJane (1), Pennsylvania, USA does not count Aug 26, 2009 Bought myself a case for my birthday after trying one. I LOVE it. If you are only going to have one beer, this is the one to have. Sip it and savor the perfection. We treat it like a dessert wine. Sharing a bottle after a meal. Sweet and thick. kwerikson (61), burlington, New Jersey, USA Aug 25, 2009 this beer was way to sweet. all of the sugar added to get that alcohol content was way to much and could not experience any of the hop bitterness that is commonly associated with ipa’s. less sugar next time and this might be the holy grail for hopheads, but as of right now, this is a beer for people who enjoy fine wines or sweet liqueurs. although the alcohol content was mighty compared to the sam adams utopia who is the reighing king, it was a good idea on dogfish, but no offense to this beer. its the thought that counts with this beer. shotgunn (32), Boise, Idaho, USA Aug 25, 2009 Lets begin with, "I was looking for the Holy Grail for Hopheads." Before I bash any on this fine beer, let me tell you that I was totally psyched out with all the hype that comes with this beer. This beer is sweet??? when I was expecting HOP bitterness. The alcohol bit and my now light-headedness is cool, but like I stated earlier, as far as I’m concerned, this is not an Imperial IPA. It does have the alcohol content but none of the other qualities I was looking for. Please don’t get me wrong, this is a good beer and I’m glad I was able to try it, but it is not for me. With that said I will get off of here and maybe I will give her a go later and see if it is something that has to grow on me, but since I live in Idaho and it is not readily available to me, I don’t know when. Cheers! unclemike (834), Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA Aug 24, 2009 This "beer" is a hazy amber with an off-white frothy head that lasts and leaves excellent lacing. It has a heavy hop aroma of flowers, perfume, herbs and resin. It is heavy, thick and very sweet! Thick and oily, sweet and very bitter. The taste lingers. It’s like hop liqeur. brettpace (179), Northridge, California, USA Aug 23, 2009 had a 2005 at my buddies house this last weekend. Its been 5 years this beer was aged... I must say it was quite delicious. Very, very sharp carbonation that attacked the tongue and a raisin, malty taste. The hop bitterness and qualities had faded over time, but it was still very good. Maltajo (103), TARRYTOWN, New York, USA Aug 22, 2009 12 oz Bottle. Strong gutsy pour with a carmel foamy head. Zesty fruity yeasty sweet. gingerlike with cinnamon notes. hoppy! very hoppy as one would imagine out of a 120. $10.50 a bottle. Go ahead indulge! xmarcnolanx (789), Kirkwood, Missouri, USA Aug 22, 2009 Aroma is alcohol, lots of sugar, and hops.
Taste is ridiculously sweet, lots of alcohol, and piny hops.
Finish is sweet, a bit hot, and viscous, with a hop bite.
A lot hoppier than perceived.
Sweet fruitiness pervades with sweet malt, hops, and alcohol.
Did I mention sweet?
Interesting. thirdeye11 (403), Texas, USA Aug 21, 2009 ྫྷoz bottled 1/17/08 tasted August 09 thanks to ballewblake) Pours a clear amber with no head, some bubbles around the rim. Nose is bread, yeast, alcohol, caramel. The taste is also caramel, slightly hot on the alcohol, bready, no hops to speak of, sweet malts, gingerbread, and cinnamon. The linger is sweet and hot, creamy and well carbonated; almost velvety. For a beer so high in alcohol it’s extremely well done and doesn’t taste like it is even close to 21%.
