LilBeerDoctor (1479), East Setauket, New York, USA Apr 26, 2008 Bottle. Poured an orange/amber with a surprising small white head and slight carbonation! Aroma of pine, acetone (aka nail polish remover), and slight grapefruit. Initial taste of super sweet malt, followed by slight bitter hops. A slow sipper for sure! The highest %abv brew that I’ve actually enjoyed somewhat! Still, it was a difficult beer to drink. An experience every beer geek should have, but I’m not sure I’d buy this one again. Jimrbb (16), USA Apr 25, 2008 Rich malty, hoppy to the extreme. The hoppy malty bite is marvelous.
This concoction has 21% of alcohol !!!! Wow, that’ something.
Very good at least. recommended dolemite77 (184), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Apr 24, 2008 No No No... I was very excited for this one. And maybe I thought, the 60 minute is good... the 90 minute is great... 120 must be better than both!! This is not even beer if you ask me. I give it middle of the road ratings based on the fact that it is if nothing else, interesting. It might be hoppy, but it’s hard to tell over the sweetness (very port-like) and the alcohol. I have a full glass in front of me, and I’m not sure what I want to do with it. It needs to probably be split about 3 or 4 ways as an after dinner drink. This clocks in about 8% higher in alcohol than most wines I drink... so a full glass of this is bound to be more than I want on a weeknight. Oh well... at least I know, and it is a fairly rare beer in my area. cgarvieuk (4159), Edinburgh, Scotland Apr 24, 2008 Bottle at home ... Deep copper/ruby ... sweet rich malty and hop resins ... sweet malty with a pine hop back bone ... packed full and a wonderfull flavour... but it burns the toungue a bit and its alcohol shows way too much... tasted along side the Hopslam ... for me the flavour if more interesting but its let down by being a bit rough... Though the burn grows on you with time, more and more as i get into this. This is a WOW beer stefanje (937), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA Apr 23, 2008 Updated: Sep 26, 200812 oz bottle from kmweaver. Pours a murky amber color with a small white head. The aroma is loaded with citrus and a touch of rubbing alcohol. The flavor is very sweet and citrusy with moderate biter hops, wow where did all that alcohol go. Mouthfeel is smooth and malty. The finish is short and sweet. Overall: A very addictive concoction, but too strong to drink every day. Good stuff, recommended. bigwilliestyel (8), Virginia, USA does not count Apr 23, 2008 This is the alpha male of IPA’s. Very very bitter and extremely hoppy. It smells very strongly of sweet malts and simultaneously of hops. Very interesting beer. It pours a light brown with a thin head. You can def taste the alcohol. Enjoyed the beer and will def get again. clingman71 (239), Centerville, Ohio, USA Apr 21, 2008 Updated: May 8, 2009Pours a very thick orangish brown with a thin light tan head, so thick that it coats the glass like nothing that I have ever seen. Tons of sweet malt aroma along with huge amounts of fruity hop aroma. Mouthfeel is enormous. How can it be this big and malty and hoppy at the same time? Very sweet, fruity, citrusy hops. It finishes with a serious hop flavor, but with a malty finish as opposed to dry as most Imp. IPAs are. It doesn’t hide the 20% very well, but it is so flavorful that I hardly noticed the burn. Even with the 120 IBU and 20% it is smooth. A contradiction in a bottle, I love it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Veer (355), Landskrona, Sweden Apr 21, 2008 Aroma: very nice, sweetish, gluelike, heavy hops, pear, pineapple preserves, obscene malt, slightly cheeselike.
Flavour: oh my, nice! Almost frikadeller-like bi-falvour, slightly sourish & metallic, a bit too sweet to match the 90 Minute. Heavy hop & obscene malt aftertaste.
Appearance: peach yellow/orange with fine dessertwine foam.
Palate: smooth, bizarre, fizzy & very heavy. Alcoholic.
