Commercial Description:
Too extreme to be called beer? Brewed to a colossal 45°P, boiled for a full 2 hours while being continually hopped with high alpha American hops, dry-hopped every day in the fermenter for a month, and aged for a month on whole leaf hops, 120 Minute IPA is by far the strongest IPA ever brewed. And at 21% ABV and 120 IBU’s, you can see why we are calling this the Holy Grail for Hopheads. Editors note: ABV reduced down to 18% in 2009.

Bottle: Vibrant golden/orange hybrid, moderate to thin off-white froamy head, quite nice lacing, mild carbonation.   Alcohol fused resiny aroma, heaps of grapefruit (sweetened) and a touch of honey.   Smells not quite as strong as the 20% the bottle states, but it sure smells sweet and candyish.   Sweet citrusy flavor immediately up front, hop presense but its subtle compared to the mouth watering sweetness.   Not cloying like I remembered, but its big.   Body is large, mouthfeel isn’t as thick or syrupy as I had remembered tho.   Lingering citrus peel on the exit, remains fairly sweet.   Definitely not a bitter hop monster, but a sugary sweet alcoholic citrus based candy.   Not terribly complex, but its smooth with a fairly well hidden ABV.   I’d have no problem having this one again.   Yum!

Calling this an I.P.A. is ridiculous. Everything about the flavor says barleywine. It has that characteristic buttery fruit aroma common in barleywines and it was surprisingly not hoppy given the name. Sweet and alcoholic and definitely best in small doses. It was odd to look at it next to the 60 and 90 Minute. The 60 was by far the palest but the 90 seemed just a hair darker than the 120 and had a better head.

Golden amber body topped by a medium thick head with decent lace. Very sweet and fruity hop aroma. Very sweet and fruity hop flavor with an underlying spiciness. Full bodied, relatively smooth, yet very warming.

Slightly aged bottle sampled at work. Hazy orange color with a creamy, medium head. Aroma is malt with floral and citrus hop notes. Very malty taste with toffee, maple notes and a citrus hop bite. Very thick and syrupy feel. Alcohol is slightly noticeable, but nowhere near what it actually is.

Thanks (I think) to doulos31 for finding this one for me. However, this didn’t do it for me, but I didn’t find it as terrible as some have made it out to be. Definitely way over sweet and thick malty base that left an aftertaste that was very sweet. It wasn’t until 10 seconds or so into the aftertaste that I was able to get the hops. Flavor was otherwise resinous, and there was very little citrus/grapefruit aromas present (ie. I wanted more of that). Pour had an initial head, but that fizzle away in the gluttoness presence of alochol, that actually hid well (not sure what wouldn’t hide in this sweet syrup goo). Color was amber yellow. Mouthfeel was really thick.

Bottle: Poured a light hazy amber color ale with a huge bubbly head with better then average retention and better then expected considering the high level content of alcohol. Aroma is well obviously very hoppy with some sweetness. Taste is way sweeter then expected with some bitterness but not as much as expected. The sweetness is a bit too much for me and even a 341 ml bottle of this stuff seems too much for my liking. Not bad just not a good everyday beer and there is a few strong extreme beers I would drink before this one. Thanks to Beerslayer for that one.

This is a really amazing beer. Cloudy light brown with a slight fizzy white head. An amazingly flower like hoppy aroma with sweet fruit notes. Thick rich sticky palate. Very rich caramel taste with a fantastic fruit, grapefruit, apple, and banana taste, for a 21% alcohol beer it’s not as sweet or as alcoholic tasting as I expected. This is a really fantastic beer!!!
