Commercial Description:
Too extreme to be called beer? Brewed to a colossal 45°P, boiled for a full 2 hours while being continually hopped with high alpha American hops, dry-hopped every day in the fermenter for a month, and aged for a month on whole leaf hops, 120 Minute IPA is by far the strongest IPA ever brewed. And at 21% ABV and 120 IBU’s, you can see why we are calling this the Holy Grail for Hopheads. Editors note: ABV reduced down to 18% in 2009.

Orange beer. No head. Quite sweet. Not bitter, ecause the sweetness dominates too much. Could be balanvced better. Slightly metallic finish. Funny experiment.

Bottle. Amber color with a laced off-white head. Amazing flavor and completely unexpected. Extremely sweet, spice aroma, sugar infused, hops bursting from the seams. What is this thing?

Bottled. Deep orange amber color with small head. Sweet berryish and flowery aroma with aromatic maltiness. Sweet, syrupy and bitter flavor with flowery hops, menthol, some tartness, some alcohol, cranberry and raspberry. Bittersweet menthol finish. Too syrupy.

Gorgeous bright ruby red color, very sizable, bubblingly creamy head... Aroma...massive, intense, huge, towering, flowering, flowing over in the air, in the senses, in the soul, ...big, fat fruit, grapefruit, peach, apricot, mango, more...and not too bitter, surprisingly pleasant... ...and, to taste...Oh, my goo’niss! Ah, ah, ah!!! INCREDIBLE occurence on the palate, prodigious, amazing, and highly flavorful...floods and gushes, uplifts, elevates, urges pleasure at the very instance lip meets cup and ale enters body...full-bodied to say the least, with a long, tantalizing finish, and additional candyish notes that linger on and on... An IPA that lays me low, knocks me down a notch, and leaves me no recourse but to bow down and let it wash over...every subsequent taste provides further onslaughts of flavor...oh, yum, yummy, McYum-Yums... During consumption of this ale, I had no idea of the ABV, for it’s been carelessly omitted from the label...20%!?!?! ...hot damn! Sticky, fruity, gummy, sweet, this surely transcends the boundaries of the India Pale Ale, and feels closer to a barleywine, or even a mead or brackett...but whatever the Hell it is, I love it!

Whoah. I'm still feeling this one. Clear amber in appearance, rapidly diminishing head. The nose was of a mixture of hops with a malt underpinning. The flavor caught me off guard. Initially sweet malts (surprisingly so for the color of the beer), followed by a hop invasion, filled with spruce, a touch of earth, and flowers. Nice. Then someone chucked a shot of Everclear into the mix. Wow, that really stood out, almost pure alcohol. As my tongue and I became more numb, the grain alcohol shot subsided and the beer became rather enjoyable. Challenging and interesting. Thank you Gib for this bottle, may you one day see the light and join this web site.

Aroma is very hoppy. Sour aroma with a hint of citrus. Pours a very transparent copper color with a slight off-white head. Start is hoppy, middle is very sweet, then some ethanol burn finished by some bitterness and then more sweetness. Lots going on here. There are features of an IPA here, but the sweetness really wacks it out. It is a good beer though, but just kind of weird.

06.30.05 12oz bottle, 2004. Mostly clear amber pour with a fine and rising tan head that seems to want to escape the glass. Lacing is immediate, sheeting, and marshmallow sticky. Aroma is hot, as you’d have to expect. Deep layers of madly sweet aromas: melting grapefruit marmalade, orange jello, ambrosia, and brain numbing booze. The flavors are huge, abusive, angry. Heaps of citric and floral hops, resinous as a forest yet draped in honey. The palate would be screaming in pain if not for a gloriously thick body, oily, soothing, a salve against the liquor working the enamel off my teeth. Wow. 120 is always a fun ride.

Deep golden body and soapy white head. Pungent, almost acrid aroma of alcohol, syrup, cinnamon, and cloves. Flavor of toasted caramelization. Tastes sugary not merely sweet. Very alcoholic and poorly attenuated. Seems bush league compared to other Imperial IPA’s. The 90 Minute is far superior.
