Heavily sweet malt nose, right on the border of becoming cloying. Faint malt in the nose as well. Sweet raison body with an almost barleywine character. NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA

I’ve had this several times, but I only didn’t lose my rating notes from the 2004 version.
Pours very syrupy, but you can tease a head out of it. Smells sweet and citrusy. The alcohol is so high that it really doesn’t have much hop flavor in fact it tastes like sweet grapefruit with alcohol mild carbonation. That being said there is just something satisfying about this that only a real geek can appreciate. EithCubes (2146), Indiana, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Oct 27, 2006 Bottle. Overpowering syrupy aroma, pineapple and citrus and grapefruit, notes of alcohol felt more than smelled. Yeah, nose is enough to knock you over. Pours a Dark amber golden with good lace and lots of legs, but little head. And sediment. Extremely cloying and sugary taste. This can not be emphasized enough. Full-bodied and approaching the viscosity of molasses. Strongly boozy, stops short of distilled spirits, and presented with more class than, say, a malt liquor, but there’s enough to make lips, gums, palate etc. numb and buzz. Quite a wallop. Throat burn is restrained, though. Sickening childish sweetness overwhelms any traces of hops ... lack of balance kills this beer. Let’s not equate novelty with quality. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 18, 2004 Not too extreme to be called beer. Poured cloudy yellow-orange with a minimal off-white head. This beer had a very grainy malt aroma with some caramel and floral hops. Flavor is very sweet and malty with plenty of piney and slightly citrusy hops balance. Somewhat tangy. The alcohol presence is amazingly subdued, yet the extreme malt suggests its presence. Nicely balanced even in the presence of such sweet malt. bager (2121), Copenhagen N, Denmark
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 12, 2007 Bottle. Hazy amber and orange in colour with a medium sized off-white head. Very powerfull and well balanced. Malty with strong notes of dried and dark fruits, caramel, alcohol and hops. mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jun 30, 2007 Bottle. 2004 vintage. Pours a cloudy, orange body with a bubbly small white head. The aroma is yeasty with chewy orange hops, pine, and grains. Very sweet and sticky up front. The middle has some diminished hop character, well, it’s actually fairly resinous. Overall it’s just too sweet and alcoholic. Finishes with lingering bitterness.
I think I’ll really have to try a fresher sample. blutt59 (2110), Dallas, Texas, USA
