Commercial Description:
Too extreme to be called beer? Brewed to a colossal 45°P, boiled for a full 2 hours while being continually hopped with high alpha American hops, dry-hopped every day in the fermenter for a month, and aged for a month on whole leaf hops, 120 Minute IPA is by far the strongest IPA ever brewed. And at 21% ABV and 120 IBU’s, you can see why we are calling this the Holy Grail for Hopheads. Editors note: ABV reduced down to 18% in 2009.

12oz Bottle @ Coles Buffalo Ny. Ist beer I’ve been actually nervous to try. hop aroma I expected to be much bigger. Alcohol definately present. Almost tastes like a hop schnapps. Sweet with hop induced alcohol burn at the end. Glad I tried it but not really for me.

Bottle at Lucky Baldwins, Pasadena. Very hoppy aroma - plesantly herbal. Slight amber colouring, with a bubbly, fluffy head. Egad! this is a stern test... Very hoppy, aggressively so, and sweet in equal measure. The flavours gyrate and put knives through my tongue. Warming alcohol on the finish. I was wincing through this - it blew my feeble mind. (NB: at the time of drinking I had no idea this was 20%, I thought about 7-8% was a good guess...)

dark amber with a decent off white head. bitter grapefruit and earthy aroma. i think there are a few hops in this. taste is thick and obtuse. obviously the hops are prevalent. taste is very strong with the alcohol that takes away from the flavor. finishes with a creamy dirty super citrus grapefruit and pepper flavor that is still overly sharp with alcohol. this is a grand experiment and i appreciate what they’ve done, but this beer needs to age for a few years. i’ll get back to you then

Wow! Smacks you in the head with hops, IMHO. Distinct sweet alcohol finish. Yeasty, flowery undertones in the nose. Pretty good, but more like a novelty beer to me. Watch out, this one will sneak up on you!

Thanks to beachbum25 for the 12 oz bottle. wonderful piney hop aroma pours hazy amber with 1 finger head. Flavor is a cloying sugar/hop flavor. IMO the hop flavor is ruined by the sweetness. poorly balanaced

Aroma is like hop syrup, northwest hops are dominant. hint of caramel. Body is amber with a nice white head. Taste is very sweet, with brown sugar, toffee, no real hops present. Very differant, expected Pliny the Younger, but got Drakes 15th.

I was pretty skeptical about this one, but decided to see what all the hype was about. Surprisingly, it turned out to be a fairly nice brew. The alcohol was not very noticeable in the flavor but, based on my extensive drinking experience, I can verify the 20+% content (I got a little dizzy). The aroma was inviting, and the flavor was a bit syrupy, but tasty. The best time to consume this beer is just before bedtime.

Re-Rate 10/5/2004 12 oz bottle Ok this is the 4th different format in which i have experienced this beer: draft, 750ml, Randalized draft, and now 12oz. The Randalized version was just amazing and warrants at least the 4.6 I have already given this beer. I will choose the higher of the ratings as my final rating. Sparkling clear amber-orange body with a small but lasting off-white head. The aroma is dominated by hops, sweet malt, and alcohol. The alcohol is not burning though. The flavor is plenty sweet but not cloying, hops are present all through out, floral, citrus, aromatic and bitter. The alcohol is shockingly well hidden (this explains how I drank that entire 750ml bottle by myself!). Some burn post swallow, but the sweetness and bitterness really cut the burn. Full syrupy body with a slightly sticky, slightly dry fniish.Still love this beer and it is aging nicely. Still a 4.6.

8/11/2003 Updated: Oct 10, 2003 Draft and Bottle - I love this beer. Clear orange-amber with a whitish head. Beautiful hoppy aroma, pine/floral. Big complex flavors, alcohol, fruity, sweet but not overly so. The hops are definitely there but do not sock you in the jaw. Thick and creamy body, really sticks to the teeth. The 20% ABV is masked, shockingly so. This is a dangerous beer. Yum.
