| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 29, 2009 I was not really prepared for this beer and because the ABV is not printed on the bottle I had no idea how powerful this one was. I poured a cloudy orange color with a moderate head and sticky lacing. The nose was so intense in made my eyes water, and smelled more like cognac than beer. In addition to the alcohol there are huge aromas of citrus, pine, and flowers in the hops. This is simply a hop monster. The mouthfeel is more like cognac than beer as well, but it remarkably smooth and full bodied for something so powerful. The flavor demands this be sipped, and that is fine because it is fun to drink. The finish is alcohol of course with some sweetness ,but it actually finishes dry. This is a beer like no other I have ever seen, and it was not until I came to review it I realized it was 21% ABV. Not something you would drink every day, but one worth repeating for a special occasion. JB175 (1664), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 15, 2006 Updated: May 17, 20072006 bottle. Thought about saving this one, but I guess I’ll have to buy a few more to lay away. Just had a 90 min yesterday so that taste is fresh in my memory and will hopefully serve as a decent comparison. Looks alot like a 90 when poured (I imagined it being darker). Aroma is very sweet and barleywinish. Strong, rich malt taste (similar to olde school bw) with a strong honey-citrus taste thats a bit like eating sugarcane. Hop bitterness is very nice for a beer of this strength. Amazingly well balanced. Alcohol present, but not nearly as strong as one would think for 21% abv. Wow, this is definately an experience. Will update if I am able to try an aged bottle. Hard to compare with anything else, and amazing that something like this is possible. douglas88 (1662), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 24, 2008 Bottle thanks to mmm///beer. I had a cool experience with this beer going to a ’how to brew beer’ class tonight. I decided to bring a beer with me, and this was the only beer in my fridge that was cold. Needless to day, the class was surprised when I finished a 20% beer in just over an hour! Pours a dark amber color with a small off-white head. The aroma was very nice; tons of sweet candy, fruit, and hop notes. I was really surprised by how drinkable this was, I don’t want to suggest that it was with a huge alcohol presence, but it was made so well that the alcohol fit in well to the overall taste. Lots of grapefruit, some pine, a smooth and very sweet malt. Very enjoyable. My favorite DFH. MrManning (1655), London, Ontario, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 26, 2009 Rating #1500- Bottle courtesy of, with many thanks, to the generous Ericandersnavy! This beer is intense. The pour is a hazy gold/orange, and it laces quite well. At first I couldn’t even deal with the aroma. It was so intense that I really had to let this breathe and have an opportunity to really open up. Nose is all about the hops. Pure concentrated hop juice. Citrus oils and solvents are upfront, huge bread crust malts follow, with all I can describe as hop fuel. it is really just hops all the way, and not in a way I have encountered before. Upon first taste, I was unprepared for the experience, and let the beer sit for a while longer. I poured a 4 oz sample, and that was more than enough at first. Straight up hops, tonnes of citric pithy flavours, some fuesel components, orangey malts, very alcoholic. The hops here are an all out pine blast. Like eating pure pine needle extract. This is so intense that I had to drink it over 2 days, 3 servings. This is a boozey hop fest in the mouth. Not for the beginner or faint of heart. This is a sipper, and I think this one should be aged for a few years to really let the intensity become a bit more well rounded. Overall, it has huge alcoholic and pine notes in the finish, syrupy and sweet. An experience I will remember for sure. A good beer, but perhaps a little too intense for everyday enjoyment. Certainly a treat! Thanks again Eric, for the bottle, I really appreciate it, and was glad I was able to celebrate 1500 with this brew!

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Nov 29, 2004 Pours amber with almost no head. Strong piney hop aroma. Sweet malt taste up front fades in and out with the hops. Flavor is everywhere. Big hop bite at the end with an aftertaste that leaves you wanting more. Reminded me of Dreadnaught in a way. Can’t understand how this beer only has a 3.8 average. Even at $9 a bottle it is worth every penny. Marsiblursi (1653), Göteborg, Sweden

Relatively blond, medium to light head.
Smells a bit of alcohol but not even half of what it contains. Hops. Smells a little like polish. Surprisingly neutral.
Taste: kaboom. Dried fruits. Strong taste of malt and hops. Big sweetness and alcohol.
(2 try at OT, Stockholm) Pours light hazy red/amber with allmost no head. Gluish smell with toffee and tobacco. Taste: Fudge/toffee. Big malty and fruity sweetness. Faical tonic and sweet tobacco. Thick mouth fell. Hops. Sweet caramel candy. Woderful. Not a typical IPA... Butters (1651), Virginia, USA

Crystal clear reddish orange pour with ring of near white head. Apricot, raisin, Absolute honey all the way around. Dried old fruit, but with a fresh mellowed pine hop. Like a mead. Alcohol has smoothed out immenselely. Total barleywine, very good. Aging has done this justice.
