Commercial Description:
Too extreme to be called beer? Brewed to a colossal 45°P, boiled for a full 2 hours while being continually hopped with high alpha American hops, dry-hopped every day in the fermenter for a month, and aged for a month on whole leaf hops, 120 Minute IPA is by far the strongest IPA ever brewed. And at 21% ABV and 120 IBU’s, you can see why we are calling this the Holy Grail for Hopheads. Editors note: ABV reduced down to 18% in 2009.

(Bottle, 2003 vintage) Pours a lightly coudy burnt orange body with a spare white head. Aroma of caramel, pine, and alcohol. Flavor of caramel, alcohol, and malts.

12oz bottle: Pours a medium golden color with a thin short-lived white head. Very sweet caramel malty aroma with strong hoppy notes. Starts with an onslaught of sweet malt syrup, pine, and butterscotch and finishes with a spiced, almost peppery, palate-killing bitterness. This isn't necessarily a bad thing because it helps to hide the alcohol from my taste buds, but not from my throat. A beast of a beer that should be enjoyed with small sips. Well brewed, but too strong for regular enjoyment and lacks the complexity of world wide stout.

clear amber-orange colour without foam, strong apricot hoppiness with alcohol notes, very oily, the initial sweetness is followed by an extreme bitterness, the aftertaste is very long and bitter showing more alcohol - very strong, to enjoy slowly and carefully ...

12oz bottle ink stamped5270-pours a tan head with copper color. Aroma is hops, sweet, alcohol similar to scotch. Taste is oily & a dry mouthfeel. Sweet taste with a warm alcohol feel. Best 2IPA I recall having, but prefer good IPA’s better.

Bottle courtesy of Madsberg, the last beer I had with this RB friend, before he went out on his India adventure. Deep amber colour with an off white head. Malty, caramel sweet background to a strong hoppy bitterness. Malty, alcohol sweet flavor with hoppy fruity notes.

Bright red-orange. virtually no head. Nose: hops - what else? but also a smell of pizza-crust - and alcohol! I get some Maillard, it seems. Strange - but first taste impression is sweet! Bitterness lurks at the edges. The balance - with such settings ) is incredible! Very rich mouthfeel, oily, nearly syrupy but not syrupy-sweet - makes me think of EKU 28°, the alcohol included. If anything blows me it is the balance of this ogre, where I was expecting an over-the-top Westcoaster. Nothing of it. GREAT!

I and MartinKubert shared a bottle with Chuck Norris and some other guy at the GBBF 2003. Very sweet and full bodied.I was very surprised by this one. It doesn't taste or smell hoppy at all, even though it's 120 IBU's! The sweetness from the alcohol is in total control here. Still very tasty and interesting, just not what I thought it would be.

Resinous green hop giants bathing in their Gargantuan honey baths...Heavy bitterness beautifully balanced with the malt cookies...Orange zest and a masterfully hidden alcohol...A very tasty but lazy mammoth...
