Beautiful amber body, beautiful creamy white head (could be a little bigger), beautiful laces; Amazing deep, very balanced well sized incredible settled and elegant nose, the alcohol does of cause show but it is very well fitting; Perfect soft smooth textured body, perfect soft smooth carbonation, super balanced, complex a little to the sweet side, but it clearly touches all elements very elegantly; It moves very smoothly into a long very balanced deep complex finish. A beer very near the PERFECT, I guess this is the most elegant and balanced beer I have ever had from the US. SUPERB! Thanks iowaherkeye. TChrome (1303), Bedford, Texas, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jan 20, 2004 Beer pours very dark almost brown golden with a big white head that dissipates, except for a head island in the middle of my glass. Aroma is strong alcohol, strong hops, strong pine, like and IPA on steroids or something. Flavor is candy sweet and extremely mough filling. Taking a drink of this beer is like stuffing your mough full of cotton candy, only in this case your stuffing your mouth full of malt and hops and candy sugar with a finishing whack of alcohol burn when the brew hits your tummy. Very yummy. golubj (1300), Sunnyvale, California, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 15, 2008 Late 2006 bottle. I have been meaning to have this beer for a long time. Cloudy dark amber with reddish hints, no head. Aroma is very malty, sweet malt mostly, a little alcohol; but good as I really enjoy the sweet malt character in Dogfish beers. The flavor is the same, ripe fruitiness, very sweet malt, like a rich cognac or something. Drinkable, nicely aged, and no notice of hops. GRM (1283), Aylmer, Quebec, Canada

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 22, 2006 From 12oz Bottle, Brewed 03-04-05. Hazy, golden orange pour with shades of glistening apricot flesh and a thin layer of banana creamsickle foam that quickly recedes to a fluffy ring of head. Very fruity aroma - presumably the result of the exceptionally high alcohol content. Scents of freshly sliced peach, over-ripe asian pears, and muscato grapes caress my nostrils gently, calming my nerves verfore the inebriated storm thats sure to follow the completion of this high octane beverage. Surprisingly, not much hops detectable in the aroma; only a smidgen of sweet orange citrus even seems to be suggesting a hops presence. An underlying backdrop of apricot brandy is the only "bitter" dimension discernable to my nostrils, but only because of the alcohol astringency that lingers. Deep breath, as I ponder the next day results of my past WWS 23% and Raison d’Extra tastings. Mentally ready, I take my first sip. Wow, thats a full bodied syrupy mouthfeel. The hops are now making themselves blatently obvious to my palate as well. Honeyed spruce resins and white cedar pulp pucker the tongue, before the sweet alcoholic notes of apple pucker and gin erase that fleeting glimmer of hop heaven happiness. Hot finish. This beer has me beat - while impressive in its sheer quanitity and complexity of its brewing process, it successfully forces me to retreat timidly from the IIPA frontlines. jrob21 (1278), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 8, 2006 Clear orange with white head that doesn’t quit. The 90 is still one of my favorites. This one is just not as balanced. All the sugar but none of the flavor. Caramel and orange aromas. Full malt taste. Big power but not a lot of taste. drfabulous (1275), Columbia, Missouri, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 30, 2006 While an excellent beer, it’s price and mystique (selling it as a single rather than in a four or six pack) is misleading. Malty. Almost a barley wine. I’d like to kick back with two or three of these on a given Fall day, but not at ten bucks a bottle. aspidites (1274), manteca, California, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Mar 12, 2005 Updated: Sep 25, 2008 What the hell is this crap. If i wanted liquid sugar I would drink soda. Way to much sweetness very cloying. way underattenuated. Almost artificial sweetness. Sticky sugary mouthfeel. Very little hop nose by comparison. Bitterness is killded by the sugar. Cloying finish with only a hint of almost extract bitterness.
