Commercial Description:
Too extreme to be called beer? Brewed to a colossal 45°P, boiled for a full 2 hours while being continually hopped with high alpha American hops, dry-hopped every day in the fermenter for a month, and aged for a month on whole leaf hops, 120 Minute IPA is by far the strongest IPA ever brewed. And at 21% ABV and 120 IBU’s, you can see why we are calling this the Holy Grail for Hopheads. Editors note: ABV reduced down to 18% in 2009.

This is one powerful beer. Appearance is similar to the 90 minute (orangish-amber and cloudy), but the limited head dissipated faster. Aroma consists of citrusy hops and alcohol in abundance, and is strong enough to be a room air freshener... not that that is all too bad! Mouthfeel is slightly oily, and the hops and alcohol hit you hard. Aftertaste was slightly astringent, yet pleasant combined with the residual hoppiness.

Bottle (12oz). Shared with blankboy and tupalev, courtesy of Dave B. Poured hazy deep orange with an average diminishing off-white head. Aroma - wow, incredible rich hops - dry hops, resiny fresh hops, oily hops - mmmmm - also woody solid malt backing, a bit funky and lactic too - nice. Taste - this is 21%? Really? Lovely rich sweet malt, resiny hops that build slowly and really stay with you. Sticky, full-bodied mouthfeel, really really nice. Thanks Dave!

Way too extreme but worth having once. Very high IBU with tons of malting on the other side. I had no clue it was 21% no wonder I knocked myself out. Must be had with evening meal, but still some stomach burning. I would like to cellar, my criticism being I could not find a date on this small bottle.

RB 2003 (Map Room). Tasted so yearly this night this was only my 3rd beer at that time. Well first look: light amber, smallish head, nahhh ... High set of aromas, alcohol teamed with all that hop taht was stuffed in this bottle. After that we had hops, hops, hops all Bavaria and West Coast in one. Other than that sweet and alcoholic.

2009-01-24. Hazy golden amber body with a nice foamy off-white head and lacing. Massively hoppy aroma, sweet orange and tangerine citrus hops, mild sweet malt base. (8+) Flavour is primarily sweet citrusy hops, sweet sugary malt base, lightly astringent bitterness in the finish is brief. Lingering sweet citrus in the aftertaste. Smooth medium to full bodied palate. Yumm! 9/4/9/4/17-19 - 4.4 Tap at Coles Rare Beer Fest, Buffalo

December 2007. Bottle. Murky amber-copper body. Big aroma of hops, melange of fruit, citrus. Hops dominate throughout the flavour, moderate but omnipresent bitterness in the flavour is balanced by sweet citrus, caramel. (7+) Smooth full palate is less syrupy than I remember, not very carbonated. (3+) Pretty nice. 8/3/7+/3+/17 - 3.9

May 2004. Bottle. Hops and alcohol leap from the glass into your nose. Syrupy mouth feel is actually quite nice. Ridiculously deceptive in hiding its alcoholic content, and is dangerously drinkable, with the hops balancing nicely with the sweet alcohol. I sink into this one deliriously falling for its seduction. Thanks Jeremy USA! 8/3/9/4/18 - 4.2

Medium gold color. Small head. Aroma is HOPPY and HOPPY, did I say hoppy. A medium to full bodied imperial IPA/Strong Ale. Malts are fruity and sweet. Hops are barely evident in the taste, which is kind of surprising as they are all over the aroma. Oily and the alcohol is very evident. Malt flavors dominate and its also very sweet. This would work as well as a desert beer, as a little of this stuff goes a longggg way. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and a touch dry. Aftertaste is slightly sweet

This bottled brew marked 03 04 05 poured a small head of finely sized off-white colored long lasting bubbles that left behind a softly carbonated transparent light brown colored body and a fair lace. The aroma mildly hopped with caramel overtones. The mouthfeel is thick inititally biting and finished with an unexpected smoothness. Very nice flavor for an IPA with strong hops, caramel, thick malt. A wonder full brew for an IPA I am impressed. Very good and highly reccommended.

[EBF @ Copenhagen, September 2008] Once again thanks to Danish Beerhouse for bringing this to Denmark. What a complex and heavy beer, this is quite extreme. Large creamy beige head that really lasted. Excellent display of lacework. Somewhat clear amber color. Surprisingly subtly hoppy nose – apricot, grapefruit, citrus, with biscuit, roasted malt, caramel, hint of fruit. Over the palate came heavy thick hops combined with the malty base and 21% alcohol. The alcohol was not as dominating as first expected. Very full boded with an average carbonation and thick, alcoholic almost syrup like texture. Heavy sweet and bitter flavor but well balanced. Lingering floral bitterness and again is well balanced with heavy sweetness. Excellent, this beer is a real pearl.
