The nose is hoppy but not as strong as the 90 IPA in my opinion. More of a fruity or sweeter nose to me with apples, peaches, grapefruits, or apricots standing out with only a slight piney hint showing up. The taste expounds on that with more of the fruit sweetness and alcohol coming out in the beer than the hops. Definite apples, and peaches with a hint of vanilla and an obvious maltiness. Nice "legs" on this. Seems almost like a sweeter EKU 28. The 20% is definitely not noticeable. Smooth sweet finish with a little of the bitterness in the aftertaste. Wonderful beer. I'd like to age some of this and taste it later. Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA

Lacing stay throughout. This stuff is great. Sweet, hoppy (no shit) and warm with a dark alcohol finish. Like a port. Had it on Randall and it was even more fresh than the bottled version. This is a true hop monster. jeffc666 (1895), Fairfax, Virginia, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Aug 11, 2003 Updated: Dec 3, 2004Re-Rate 10/5/2004 12 oz bottle Ok this is the 4th different format in which i have experienced this beer: draft, 750ml, Randalized draft, and now 12oz. The Randalized version was just amazing and warrants at least the 4.6 I have already given this beer. I will choose the higher of the ratings as my final rating. Sparkling clear amber-orange body with a small but lasting off-white head. The aroma is dominated by hops, sweet malt, and alcohol. The alcohol is not burning though. The flavor is plenty sweet but not cloying, hops are present all through out, floral, citrus, aromatic and bitter. The alcohol is shockingly well hidden (this explains how I drank that entire 750ml bottle by myself!). Some burn post swallow, but the sweetness and bitterness really cut the burn. Full syrupy body with a slightly sticky, slightly dry fniish.Still love this beer and it is aging nicely. Still a 4.6.
8/11/2003 Updated: Oct 10, 2003 Draft and Bottle - I love this beer. Clear orange-amber with a whitish head. Beautiful hoppy aroma, pine/floral. Big complex flavors, alcohol, fruity, sweet but not overly so. The hops are definitely there but do not sock you in the jaw. Thick and creamy body, really sticks to the teeth. The 20% ABV is masked, shockingly so. This is a dangerous beer. Yum. Cornboy (417), Eastampton, New Jersey, USA

Not for the faint of heart as some reviews reveal. This deserves its own category.
Feel the warmth, find a bottle of 120 and settle in with a good movie. At 20%, its good night in no time.

| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 5, 2006 I’ve been waiting for this one for a while, and I am not disappointed. the biggest surprise to me is the fact that even though there is a over-abundance of hops it not overly hoppy flavored as I thought it would be. would you get a rich melody of fruits, caramel, butterscotch and dark fruits. The beer is smooth like velvet. This is one for the record books. You must try this one, Tejas (702), Dallas, Texas, USA

Nose from the snifter just says this is a SOB. This taste completely different on draught and is totally delicious. No alcohol flavor. Tons of cherry flavor is what I get. Great balance b/c of the sturdy sweet backbone. Creamy palate. VERY VERY easy drinker, which is almost a bad thing b/c it goes down so nice.
Bottle >> Nice hoppy aroma w/ a little alcohol in the nose too. Amber color w/ a little white head that surprisingly lasted longer than I thought it would. Big piney flavors. Chewy & sticky on the tongue & teeth. This one was far better when it was cold right out of the fridge. As it warmed up the alcohol became more noticeable & overpowered the hops. I can appreciate the attempt at a big f’ing IIPA but this one just goes to close to the Listerine level. redave (135), squaw valley, California, USA

WOW this is a Barley wine in my book, in the same caliber of Bigfoot ale.
Nice creamy head, extraordinary lace all the way down. Incredible blast of flavors right off the bat. Malty sweetness balanced by big hop bitterness. great beer WAY expensive. would love to have some several years after cellaring, i think the flavors would blend and improve even more. | 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Jan 24, 2009 Bottle. Pours cloudy amber with small, white-coloured head. Aroma of hops. Heavy pine-like flavour, and almost no alcohol flavour, which is surprising considering the strength of this brew. This is a fantastic beer, and I wish it was a bit cheaper and more available. I would love to make this a regular occurence.
