Commercial Description:
Too extreme to be called beer? Brewed to a colossal 45°P, boiled for a full 2 hours while being continually hopped with high alpha American hops, dry-hopped every day in the fermenter for a month, and aged for a month on whole leaf hops, 120 Minute IPA is by far the strongest IPA ever brewed. And at 21% ABV and 120 IBU’s, you can see why we are calling this the Holy Grail for Hopheads. Editors note: ABV reduced down to 18% in 2009.

120 Minute IPA pours to a beautiful, very bright, deep amber color, with a tight white head that fades, and amazingly, for such a huge beer, with such a lush palate, a moderate amount of carbonation. The nose is amazingly complex and hoppy, with deep aromas of spicy/citric/resiny, pungent hops, paired with some peppery alcohol. The palate is equally complex and amazing, with a slick, silky, and lush mouth feel. Whiskey like flavors of sweet malt, honey, pepper, and undertones of candied citrus hop flavor, glide over the tongue. 120 Minute IPA finishes with more complex malt and hop flavors up front, then ends with a warming, soothing, peppery alcohol burn, that lingers and warms as it goes down. This is an amazingly complex, and flavorful beer, that is akin to drinking a fine single malt scotch, sherry, cognac, or port. I truly am in awe of this beer, because as huge as this beer is, it remains very drinkable and enjoyable. The palate is so polished and silky, making it dangerous to drink, for such a big beer. This beer clocks in at 120 IBU(bitterness units), 21% abv, and 45 degrees Plato. But as stated, as massive as this beer is, there is complete harmony going on here. 120 Minute IPA is balanced, just on an amplified scale. That being said, this beer does not suit every taste. I know some pretty experienced beer lovers who were not impressed with this beer and found it to be just too much of a good thing. 120 IPA is the ultimate after work, or after dinner beer. I would not dare pair this with food, any more than I would a fine single malt or port. Though, it would be a perfect match with strong and sharp cheeses, much like barleywine is. Savor this one as a relaxing after dinner drink.

It didnt expects this interesting a beer from reading previous ratings of it, but this one really is amazing. Beautiful amber body, beautiful creamy white head (could be a little bigger), beautiful laces; Amazing deep, very balanced well sized incredible settled and elegant nose, the alcohol does of cause show but it is very well fitting; Perfect soft smooth textured body, perfect soft smooth carbonation, super balanced, complex a little to the sweet side, but it clearly touches all elements very elegantly; It moves very smoothly into a long very balanced deep complex finish. A beer very near the PERFECT, I guess this is the most elegant and balanced beer I have ever had from the US. SUPERB! Thanks iowaherkeye.

Bottle from Axllives, thanks a lot, Bryan! This was really something else. An expirience I will not soon forget. A sweetness SLIGHTLY masked the hops, which VERY MUCH masked the 21%. I’ve never seen such thick creamy lacing on a glass before. The hop flavor is heavy, and plenty of bitterness. It has a very thick mouthfeel which I found surprising. What an expirience, I enjoyed every last drop of this brew!

Liquid gold!!! Beautiful gold color with great hop smell. Sweet and floral with bitter hop bite at the end. Very strong!! Had on tap a my local pub(as well as in bottle, draught better.) Passed out on my son’s bedroom floor after 3 chimay cups worth.

$9 12 oz bottle given to me for my birthday this year. Wow this beer didn’t disappoint. Nothing like the 60 minute or 90 minute. It’s much maltier, and although the hops are also very much present, the honey malt flavor and sweetness takes over. You have to take your time with this beer. As it warms up the alcohol becomes more noticeable. If it weren’t so expensive I’d have bottles of this in my fridge. I have to say this is probably my new favorite beer. It’s a shame I’ll only be able to afford to drink it 2 or 3 times a year.

Pours a hazy orange copper with a two finger head that dissipates slowly and leaves but a thin coat of foam. Nose of most evident piney hops. Amazing taste, very complex; much like a barleywine. Alcohol is extremely well hidden. Mouthfeel is smooth and thick, coats the mouth. Good sipping drinkability, definitely not a session beer.

Had it at Bull and Bush in Denver, CO. Aged for 4 years and a steal at 25 bucks for a big bottle. Drink slowly, because the strongness sneaks up on you like a delicious ninja.

A wonderfully strong and sweet Imperial IPA. This Imperial IPA is far sweeter then anything I have ever had before in a IPA. At first it comes on as a surprise but finishes as a unique experience that you want to repeat. Aroma is fruity with hints of apricots. Color is a traditional golden color expected in a Imperial IPA that is not too opaque. Flavor is also has hints of ripe or dried apricots and grapefruit with distinct but not strong hop bitterness. Overall this beer came as a surprise, I was expecting a strong hop bitterness but the sweetness was overwhelming, not in a bad way though.
