Commercial Description:
Too extreme to be called beer? Brewed to a colossal 45°P, boiled for a full 2 hours while being continually hopped with high alpha American hops, dry-hopped every day in the fermenter for a month, and aged for a month on whole leaf hops, 120 Minute IPA is by far the strongest IPA ever brewed. And at 21% ABV and 120 IBU’s, you can see why we are calling this the Holy Grail for Hopheads. Editors note: ABV reduced down to 18% in 2009.

Bottle pours an pale beige head with some legs and a golden amber hazy body. Smells of bubblegum and spicy hops with notes of citrus hops and medium malt sweetness. Flavor is ripe fruit, alcohol, cloying, and massive hops that are mellow and balanced. Not too bitter. 9/17/09: Just had an 07 bottle. Full of spices, honey, raisin, apricot, fig, intense, smooth, melded. Absolutely amazing. Hardly any alcohol presence. Gave 0.4 more points around the ratings.

This one’s certainly not for those with weak constitutions. But at about $9 per 12oz bottle, it isn’t meant to be consumed very often either. This is my first true "experience" beer, and I was very happy that I indulged my curiosities. The taste has a very citrusy start, then a kick of alcohol, and finally fades out leaving you with a citrusy residue. The taste is certainly not for everyone, but everyone should have the experience of drinking a beer this intense.

As the bottle says, this beer can be kept in your collection for years without losing anything. At $8 a bottle and tough to find in Delaware (we bought it in DE) this is a steep price to pay. However, we bought 4 bottles to share with friends, and plan to keep 2 of those bottles for celebrations in the coming years. Definetely a sipping beer, a delicious IPA with powerful hops the whole way from aroma through aftertaste. Highly recommended!

Pours a golden amber color with minimal lacy head. Aroma of this bottle is absolutely amazing. I have never smelled an IPA this crazy. Candy sweetness, earthy, caramel goodness. The hops are very flavorful and are very well over the top but they do not leave that lingering bitterness of most IPAs.

pours cloudy orange with a head that fades rather quickly. smells overwhelmingly of hops as soon as you pop the bottle. taste is way different. it tastes rather sweet with some fruit flavors and a well balanced hop flavor. after taste is rather strong in alcohol. aged 2 years.

Poured from 12oz bottle. Wow. Really strong, all around. Strong smell, almost like a bourbon. Strong taste...kind of hard to discern any hoppy flavor through the high alcohol level, but I have to say, I really liked this beer. Very murky appearance. Considering it’s about the equivalent of 6 shots of vodka, I’d reach for this beer rather than liquor next time. Definitely a sipping beer, although it didn’t last long in my glass.

Here’s the thing about this beer: I am damn glad there are people out there willing to push the envelop and make interesting, wicked strong beers. I have seen reviews saying the color isn’t appealing because it’s orange, too sweet, etc. and IMO those are people that aren’t disturbed enough to be alowed to drink this beer. I am going to have another just to double-check though.

NOW THIS IS AN IPA, after having the 90 i was expecting not to like this beer but i had to give it a shot and i am glad i did. i expected the same unbalanced characteristics that the 90 had but i was wrong, this beer is amazing, almost 22% but it is barley noticable. great hop profile.
