Commercial Description:
Too extreme to be called beer? Brewed to a colossal 45°P, boiled for a full 2 hours while being continually hopped with high alpha American hops, dry-hopped every day in the fermenter for a month, and aged for a month on whole leaf hops, 120 Minute IPA is by far the strongest IPA ever brewed. And at 21% ABV and 120 IBU’s, you can see why we are calling this the Holy Grail for Hopheads. Editors note: ABV reduced down to 18% in 2009.

12 oz. bottle. I poured 6 ozs. for myself and 6 ozs. for my brother. citrus aroma. Orange murky color. Full body with a syrupy texture. Starts out very sweet. Finishes with an alcohol taste. Even after 6 ozs. I can feel it. Drink this in moderation.

2004 bottle. Pours orange amber with white head. Aroma is sweet and surprisingly malty. Flavor of very light pine hops, fruits (apricots were most prominent), and lots of sugary sweet malts. Very sherry-like. Alcohol is noticeable in the warmth but not in the flavor. I’m interested in tasting a current vintage though I don’t think I’ll like it nearly as much.

I have the pleasure of this beer twice so far, and it certainly doesn’t dissapoint. Its just one of those ones that you have to try. Alcohol is extremely well hidden. Mouthfeel is sticky. This beer comes at you in waves. There is an intrinsic sweetness that comes along with the alcohol. Oddly enough, the bitterness of the hops seems to go away with this. This is just one of those beers that you should close your eyes and sip to fully enjoy. Truly impressive.

Sweet and syrupy. I love how the sweetness balances out the extreme hops. Some think it is too strong, but I could drink this stuff all day.

Pours a dark amber with a small tan head. The aroma is complex - malt, hops and a definite hint of alcohol (imagine that!) along with some fizzy carbonation nose feel, almost a combination of champagne and beer. The first sip is amazing. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it definitely wasn’t this. A rich, sweet malt flavor with a zing to the finish. I expected the hops to dominate, but they really play a supporting role to the malt. The combination of the two is like nothing I’ve had before, wonderful. I will definitely pick up another for aging. Also, other than the first wiff, the alcohol is barely noticeable until you start feeling tipsy towards the end of the glass.

Expected to have my mouth dried out, but this beer defies expectations. Almost liqueur-like. Syrupy pour, beautiful orange glow. Apples and citrus on the nose. Sweet hop flavor, no hop bitterness until the finish. I was feeling the alcohol by the time I was halfway through with it. Very good beer

Responsibly extreme hoppiness. Not just a hop bomb for the sake of shoving hops in a brew. Exquisite aroma upon opening bottle (floral hops, naturally!). Nearly orange color upon pour with a sexy foamy head. Aroma was balanced - gorgeous floral/citrus hops and a touch of malty notes. Flavor is exquisite. I enjoyed this with a plate of spicy buffalo chicken - the hoppy brew stood up well to the spiciness. This one dances on the palate and is a gem. I’m not an IPA lover, but this one is fabulous - no surprise that Dogfish aced this one.

THis beer has such an intence smell to it with smells of strong pine and bitter malt. It has a cloudy orange color and the head fades very quickly. As you sip on it you taste strong tang and a lot of booze. There is also hints of hops, the bite very faint. Overall this is a really good IPA considering it is very boozy. The after taste is very sweet as you drink te beer it tends to be very smooth and the flavor is much like clove and citrus.
