Aroma is dominated by hops of course but there is also a strong alcohol presence. This is an extremely hoppy beer that is to be sipped slowly. Although the flavor is dominated by bitter hoppiness, I feel that the 21% abv provides a strong alcohol taste and warmth that takes away from this flavor. I liked this beer very much but wished that the high abv was masked a bit more. Chapel (330), Levittown, New York, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 29, 2008 Maybe not the holy grail, but still pretty damn good. Pours a very thick copper, almost like a mix of unfiltered cider and orange juice. Aroma is very sweet and fruity. Flavor is high in sweetness with heavy flavors of apple, green grape and orange. Bitterness was a much different experience from the only other IIPA I have had and is worlds apart from every IPA I have had. Interestingly, the shockingly high ABV also doesn’t show though much. I am not sure if such a thing is possible, but I think that somehow the high ABV and high IBU flavors melded into something different. Finish was dry and mildly sticky in the back of my mouth. Many of the qualities of the flavor and aroma are more reminiscent of wine than beer. Feinschmecker (190), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 29, 2009 Orange color with a very distinctive concentrated sweet and floral aroma. To compare this to another beer might be wrong. It is in a league all its own. A mixture of citrus, apricots and sugary malt. Although it is extreme, it is somehow balanced. It is great the way it is. What an amazing beer. ReademNwheat (174), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 5, 2008 From bottle. Pours a murky golden/copper color. Enormous hop aroma. First sip is great. Pretty sweet with a hop bite. I expected it to be more hoppier than it is, but it is well balanced with sweet malts. I drank this pretty quick because it was so good and you can definetely feel the 21% abv hit you. An extreme brew but thats to be expected from DFH. Beershine (2754), Traipsing Around, Cambodia
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 7, 2008 Bottle and draught both solid. Hazy luminescent gold with white lacing. Milder hoppy aroma than expected because of the balance of sweet malts, fruits, and even berries. Much more like a barleywine in character than an IPA but achieving the glory of both. An intimidating yet insanely pleasurable brew and it tastes FABULOUS with its partner WWS in what the brewery has dubbed Heaven and Hell, a fine blend...Love this. fidelis83 (729), Clinton, Iowa, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Feb 23, 2009 Pours a murky apricot orange with a 1 finger ashy tan head that has decent retention and leaves tiny specks of lacing. Aroma is huge flora and citrus hops, some pine. Dig a little deeper and mango, pineapple, a hint of caramel, yeasty bread, bubblegum, unripe cherries, fresh cooked pasta and some sort of sweet booze that I can’t really pin down. Flavor is is interesting and very different for me. Up front is sweet naval orange, blood orange, bubblegum, mango, cherry, the malt notes are very mellow, sweet bread, heavily buttered toast, raw grain, and some dark fruit notes. Finish citrus and floral hops, pineapple, bubblegum, some other fruitiness and a little alcohol bite at the end. Not alot of bitterness. Palate is thick, sorta chalky at times, somewhat sticky and very oily. angrypirate06 (781), Texas, USA

Great mouth feel, excellent syrupy texture. Taste is of citrus hops. The finish has a great alcohol taste. Overall, and excellent beer. Tripplebrew (502), Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 15, 2008 Updated: Aug 16, 2008Holy crap. This is amazing. Pours a creamy golden honey color with white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is incredibly hoppy but not pine-like at all completely sweet. after two sips I feel like I should blackout from the alcohol. Flavor is intensely sweet but not like drinking a syrupy beer. The hops come out enough but in a different way that they do with traditional hop beers. It is this intense caramelized forms of hops that plays wonderfully in this beer. Body is fabulous with a thick creaminess that isn’t syrupy but has the perfect touch of carbonation.
