Commercial Description:
Too extreme to be called beer? Brewed to a colossal 45°P, boiled for a full 2 hours while being continually hopped with high alpha American hops, dry-hopped every day in the fermenter for a month, and aged for a month on whole leaf hops, 120 Minute IPA is by far the strongest IPA ever brewed. And at 21% ABV and 120 IBU’s, you can see why we are calling this the Holy Grail for Hopheads. Editors note: ABV reduced down to 18% in 2009.

How to distinguish this from Belgian candy? How to believe it’s 120 IBU? It is certainly fantastic. Extremely satisfying. Best to admit it is unique, and not to be compared with other ales.

Golden amber body topped by a medium thick head with decent lace. Very sweet and fruity hop aroma. Very sweet and fruity hop flavor with an underlying spiciness. Full bodied, relatively smooth, yet very warming.

I bought some from the online source vintage cellar in VA. I just opened a bottle last night and in my opnion it was close to amazing. Nothing like the 24% wws which to me tastes like hard alcohol. The 120 minute actually is not hoppy enough to meet the sweetness but it is damn close to. It is a beautiful beer. Not too carbonated (like most beers that use champagne yeast are). It is actually hard to taste the alcohol. Nothing like earlier reviews from people who tasted the keg and said it was spoiled or too thick or gooky. This beer looks beautiful and professional and it is a joy to taste. I guess this beer proves the theory that at a certain point hops can get more flavorful or bitter in a beer because it still wasn't enough for me. Great job Dogfish.

Rich amber colour with a thick body and no head. The aroma and flavour are quite hoppy, of course, but it is suprisingly well balanced, with some sugary, boozy sweetness running throughout. Very interesting and quite drinkable despite the high octane alcohol and hop overload.

Wonderful beer, but perhaps not worth the price of $8 for 12 oz. Aroma is very good and has abundant hops as well as malt. Almost no carbonation. Great flavor, no complexity however. There is a load of hops and this is balanced by sweet barleywine-like malt and sugar. Perhaps the thickest and heaviest ipa I have ever had. The alcohol is expertly hidden in the aroma and flavor and not detectable in either.

This bottled brew marked 03 04 05 poured a small head of finely sized off-white colored long lasting bubbles that left behind a softly carbonated transparent light brown colored body and a fair lace. The aroma mildly hopped with caramel overtones. The mouthfeel is thick inititally biting and finished with an unexpected smoothness. Very nice flavor for an IPA with strong hops, caramel, thick malt. A wonder full brew for an IPA I am impressed. Very good and highly reccommended.

Poured a dark orange color with a small sticky head. Sweet candy sugar, and slighty hoppy aroma. Had a very sweet initial taste, almost like candy, then the alcohol burns your throat on the way down.

Hell yeah. That should be enough. But it is not. Amber ish golden with a thin white head. THe nose is sweet malty with a sharp hop finish. The taste is suggary and hops sweet and malty in the taste. The mouth is full and heavy.
