Commercial Description:
Too extreme to be called beer? Brewed to a colossal 45°P, boiled for a full 2 hours while being continually hopped with high alpha American hops, dry-hopped every day in the fermenter for a month, and aged for a month on whole leaf hops, 120 Minute IPA is by far the strongest IPA ever brewed. And at 21% ABV and 120 IBU’s, you can see why we are calling this the Holy Grail for Hopheads. Editors note: ABV reduced down to 18% in 2009.

Bottled. Aroma of hop and alcohol. Lots of pine in the flavor, with a finish that isn’t as aggressive as I thought it might be. Tasty.

Orange/amber color. A nice little white head sticks around. Chunky lace is left behind as I drink it. This tastes like a beer liqueur. Aroma is alcaholic with some sweetness. The vapors of the aroma are rather pleasent. It’s sweet like a liqueur. I don’t really get too much hoppiness. I could use a little more hops to balance out the flavor. Usually, I drink beer pretty fast, including strong imperial stouts, but I’ve been working on this for almost a couple of hours now. It tastes like it has candi sugar in it. This is really different. I think it gets better as it warms. It’s hard to rate because it’s so different. I definately don’t want to drink this a lot, but still is very good. I really don’t know what to think. I would say that when you pour this, expect to drink a liqueur and not a beer. It’s very sticky. I like the WWS better. Rerate 041804: Had this on tap at Obrien’s last night. They were serving it up in freakin pints! I liked it much better on tap than from the bottle I had for my original tasting. On tap, it was much smoother and better balanced. Maybe it was a different batch. Rererate 080507 bottled in 2003: Necter...perfect amount of aging. Like a nice dessert wine, but a little less sweet. Kind of like a double IPA with more sweetness and less bitterness. Increased rating from 4.0 to 4.2.

Wonderful beer, but perhaps not worth the price of $8 for 12 oz. Aroma is very good and has abundant hops as well as malt. Almost no carbonation. Great flavor, no complexity however. There is a load of hops and this is balanced by sweet barleywine-like malt and sugar. Perhaps the thickest and heaviest ipa I have ever had. The alcohol is expertly hidden in the aroma and flavor and not detectable in either.

This bottled brew marked 03 04 05 poured a small head of finely sized off-white colored long lasting bubbles that left behind a softly carbonated transparent light brown colored body and a fair lace. The aroma mildly hopped with caramel overtones. The mouthfeel is thick inititally biting and finished with an unexpected smoothness. Very nice flavor for an IPA with strong hops, caramel, thick malt. A wonder full brew for an IPA I am impressed. Very good and highly reccommended.

Hazy dirty orange in color with a thick and dense head. Sticky lacing clings to the glass. A pretty solid looking ale. Not the most pleasant aroma. Suprisingly weak for what i was expecting. Old lemons, apricot, alcohol, tropical juice and grapefruit were easy to inhale. Like a BIG sweet barley wine. Thick and warming mouthfeel. Felt very heavy in the mouth and certainly not for the timid. I cannot stress enough how well the alcohol is hidden. This can sneek up on you...fast! If I were to have guessed without knowing the ABV beforehand I would have said 11-12%.

Dee-licious! Extremely chewy and over the top. Flavor is grassy, with strong honey and vanilla and the suggestion of orange blossoms. Not unlike a tawny port. Almost a barley wine. I had another last night with elnadeau, not quite as striking this time around, maybe some age will change it.
