Commercial Description:
Too extreme to be called beer? Brewed to a colossal 45°P, boiled for a full 2 hours while being continually hopped with high alpha American hops, dry-hopped every day in the fermenter for a month, and aged for a month on whole leaf hops, 120 Minute IPA is by far the strongest IPA ever brewed. And at 21% ABV and 120 IBU’s, you can see why we are calling this the Holy Grail for Hopheads. Editors note: ABV reduced down to 18% in 2009.

2004 release. This beer almost killed me. Such a thick, syrupy palate which reminded me of a barleywine such as Old Guardian. Bountiful hops in aroma and taste, yet the extreme pine bitterness is countered by sweet luscious malts. The alcohol lovingly burns with each swallow. After about 3/4 of a 12oz bottle, I had a mild break out of hives on my skin. This beer caused some sort of alergic reaction...perhaps from the insane amount of hops. I have never before experienced this...but I love it! This shit really did kick my ass!

Sample glass, RateBeer Southeastern Gathering. Tons of malt and hops in the aroma. Simply too beautiful and complex for me to describe in words here (read=late in the tasting, looking for another bottle). Nothing citric about the hop profile. Flavor is everything the aroma promised. Gorgeous amber-orange body. Heavy body, creamy/oily texture, lively carbonation. The bottom line is: I don’t know who brought this, but thank you so much; this is an awesome beer, plain and simple.

Re-rate. 12 oz bottle, snifter, 04 bottling. Not quite as aromatic as i first concluded (-1). Color is nice, but not as deep as previously indicate and the head diminished quickly with little lacing (-1). Flavor is a bit simpler than I remembered and the alcohol a bit strong (but still well hidden for 20%) (-1). Still a very nice mouthfeel. Overall is affected by the other decrements (-2). A tasty beer...just not top 10 material for me anymore.

Amber with a small head. Very vinous and malty in a very complex way. Sweetish but still in a balanced way. Has in incredible body and brings an oily and very good palte. The alcohol is well hidden, even if this is at least just as much liquor as beer. I liked it alot and would love to taste it again.

2009-01-24. Hazy golden amber body with a nice foamy off-white head and lacing. Massively hoppy aroma, sweet orange and tangerine citrus hops, mild sweet malt base. (8+) Flavour is primarily sweet citrusy hops, sweet sugary malt base, lightly astringent bitterness in the finish is brief. Lingering sweet citrus in the aftertaste. Smooth medium to full bodied palate. Yumm! 9/4/9/4/17-19 - 4.4 Tap at Coles Rare Beer Fest, Buffalo

December 2007. Bottle. Murky amber-copper body. Big aroma of hops, melange of fruit, citrus. Hops dominate throughout the flavour, moderate but omnipresent bitterness in the flavour is balanced by sweet citrus, caramel. (7+) Smooth full palate is less syrupy than I remember, not very carbonated. (3+) Pretty nice. 8/3/7+/3+/17 - 3.9

May 2004. Bottle. Hops and alcohol leap from the glass into your nose. Syrupy mouth feel is actually quite nice. Ridiculously deceptive in hiding its alcoholic content, and is dangerously drinkable, with the hops balancing nicely with the sweet alcohol. I sink into this one deliriously falling for its seduction. Thanks Jeremy USA! 8/3/9/4/18 - 4.2

#300 - Save the best for the milestones. Been very excited since I received this bottle to sample it. Here it goes: Potent, Sweet, Hoppy, not much head out of bottle but it has been sitting awhile. Very tasty, very sugary. Its also very smooth while being sweet and hoppy. Very interesting tasting experience. Another dark amber beverage that has some potent effects. Allot of these east coast beers of late I’ve been detecting a Sweet tea undertone. It’s here but very faint. Not as citrusy as one might think. Not exactly what I expected but very interesting experience.

Bottled. Clear copper brown, not much head. Bready, hoppy, bitter aroma. Very portwineous mouthfeel; carbonation, syrapy, bready, sweet. Long hoppy bitter aftertaste, but in the taste hops are overrun by sugar and alcohol. Nice, complex beer to sip.

Re-rate does nothing to dimish the greatness. Sweet grapes abound. in this 6 oz. sample.
4 oz. sample at Southeastern Gathering. Dark golden color and fizzy. This probably shocked me more than anything that day. I was expecting something overly bitter, with a late burn. What I got was something strangely balanced with a sweet finish. Not at all being a "hophead", and loving a 120 IBU - i’m miffed! They got this one right.

(Bottle, shared by Beermouth, thanx) Pale orange, beige head. Extremly nice aromas; liqourice, Digestive. Superfresh hopnose, green, complex and very well layered.. The flavour itself is great; walnuts in syrup, canesugars, dried abricots. In the finish, the alcohol just keeps up with the sweetness anf the roasted taste of pines. Guess it´s only flaw is the demand to be served ICEcold.
