Dogfish Head 75 Minute IPA

On cask at Friday the Firkenteenth at the Grey Lodge Pub. Pours a transparent orange amber with some light, lacing white head. Aroma is a mix of hops, pine and lemons with some caramel sweetness. Flavor is a mixture of moderate sweetness and moderate bitterness. Dry finish. If you like 60min and you like 90min, then 75min is a good marriage.

For my 300th rathing, I decided to wait for this rare, beautiful combonation of Dogfish Head’s 60 and 90 Minute IPAs: Dogfish Head 75 Minute IPA Firkin. I had a 12 oz glass, straight from the tap, at Teresa’s Next Door with James, Tony, Braden, and Sean. This brew pours a beautifully murky, creamy chesnut brown with a one finger, thick, pillowy tan head. The nose is not immediately evident, but as the beer settles, the aroma releases subtly. Aroma is wonderful: dry hops, yeast, pepper, roasted almonds, sweet malts, maple syrup, and hints of honey and raisins. Medium bodied with an extraordinarily smooth, rich, supple boddy--especially for an IPA. Finishes slow and sweet. This brew was a very special treat and a perfect fit for my 300th rating. Here’s to the next 100.

Draft at Teresa’s Next Door in Wayne, PA. Pours a very dark orange body with nice dark haze, and a very smooth white haze. The aroma is sweet candy hops. The beer sits nicely on the tongue, such a smooth mouthfeel. Flavors of citrus hop, candy, and maybe even wheat? Slight bitterness towards the end.

Cask at TND: Aroma of hops, pine, light citrus, slight caramel malt, slight brown sugar, and maple syrup. Poured light brown/flaxen/amber in color with a large, loose, off-white head that lasted throughout. Cloudy. Not sparkling. Full of small particles throughout. Good lacing. Flavor is light to medium sweet and light to medium bitter. Tastes of hops, slight wood, maple syrup, slight brown sugar, and light malts. Medium body. Dry texture. Cask carbonation. Lightly sweet, lightly bitter, hop, pine, light malt, and maple syrup finish is slightly dry.

With a vague hiopo aroma and a nice golden appearance, this beer is delicious. It is pleasantly sweet and hoppy, but still smooth on the palate.

@ The White Horse: A caramel orange beer with appetising, clingy beige head. Orange and clementine hops, back up by a slight fudgey sweetness. Rich bitterness, light fruit and sweet tickles. This ticks all the boxes and finishes with good length and heavy booze. Controlled expertly in both flavour and texture.

On draught at Yard House (West Palm, FL): The only thing I’d change about this beer is to take out the 60 Minute blend and add more 90 Minutes... and then even more hops. Pours a crisp and clear, light golden orange brown, pillowy white, thin head. Nose is of hops bitterness, maple and caramel. Flavor is similar, but with added complexity- florals, sweet malts, pin needles dipped in juniper berries, and grapefruit pith. Drinkability: 75’s pleasant, but unfortunately what you get is not better than the sum of it’s parts. Rebuy: Yes. #182 on 02112009, DG.
