Dogfish Head 90 Minute Imperial IPA

Interesting mix of very sweet and very bitter. I’m not a hophead, but can surely appreciate a well hopped beer. However, the balance of sweet and bitter here, while impressive, is a bit lost on me. Sweet caramel malts up front with celery and grapefruit hops coming right behind. The palate is creamy and a bit metallic. The finish is long and bitter. Glad I tried it, and I certainly appreciate the artistry, but it won’t be on my top 10 list.

The smell is a nice hop aroma and looks quite beautiful sitting in a glass with its white head. Taste is incredibly hoppy with a slightly bitter finish. Excellent IPA

Pale golden color, clear, generous head. Nose is somewhat soapy-like with a citrusy clean component. Palate has an odd sweetness that is quite prominent and then followed by a dryish hop finish. Very atypical to me, as far as my DIPA experiences have been. Scary how drinkable this ale is.

holy fuck. why was i walking past this one at the nova? this is one tasty beverage. pours reddish brown with a junior high, prom queen-wannabe head. taste is sweet with an , kinda like shooting for alpha king status. a malty typical IPA flavor and one of the best. give me more, more, more. the alpha king reference may have been a little influenced by a bunch of brews, the latest being ALPHA KING. thank you, sucker.

A: This baby pours a nice copper brown color. There head builds quickly only to die just as suddenly. Lots of tiny bubbles rise to the top and brings the head back with a simple swirl. Nice thick lacing left behind. S: Bold aromas. There is a huge hoppy aroma with tons of Florida grapefruit. There is a wonderful sweetness to balance out the insane amount of hops. T: This is where this baby shines. This is one of the best DIPA’s out there. Tons of citrus blast your tongue putting your senses into overload. Just enough malt is used to mute the hops a bit so that they don’t totally trash your taste buds. Hoppy, sweet, and wonderful. The crown gem in the DFH crown. M: Medium to full bodied with nice carbonation. This one really clings adding to full enjoyment.

Aroma of molasses and raisins and some fruitcake. Taste is very heavy on on the raisins, molasses, brown sugar. Thick but goes down smooth with alcohol warming in the aftertaste. Excellent.

outstanding imperial ipa. grapefruit! lovely, warming alcoholic finish and perfect amount of sweetness in the flavor.

I agree that it deserves top honors among the IPA’s. Was my favorite until I tried the Rogue Imperial IPA. I think it gives 90 Minute a run. But there can be no doubt that this beer has great flavor, great balance, great body, texture, aroma, everything. The finish is where 90 Minute and Rogue diverge, and I think its a coin flip between the two.
