Brilliant dusky orange under a massive blossom of foam worthy of the Tripel Karmeliet tulip;festoons of lace like cosmic dust clouds. That’s a 5. Unanticipated caramel sweetness on the nose like Brewdog Punk IPA; cinder toffee, digestive biscuits, batter and liquorice as much as Mango Jammy Dodgers (imagine) and juicy satsuma on the edge of moulding. Smells like tangerine cheesecake left in the sun. Spruce, almond, bags of booze as the head subsides. Hops big but tropical and ester-like, with more than a suggestion of pineapple. Fat but supple; hop intensity accelerated to the point it goes backwards and begins to imitate the mellow estery glow of a big Belgian Tripel. Warm but not fierce, alcohol spike cushioned luxuriously in malt, tangerine, walnut, satsumas on buttered toast, soapy biscuit..The brilliance of this beer is that it smacks you in the face with hops and you hardly notice.

Very fruity, piny and a bit floral. Some alcohol and spices also. Nice complexity on the nose. Taste is quite bitter but with some mellow fruits at the same time. Finish is very bitter and fruity. Alcohol is quite present but goes well with the bitterness. A bit sweet but quite crisp and dry overall. I am a big fan of the 60 minute IPA but this is much better. A bit less drinkable but much more complex and rich. SpencerDB (43), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Nov 27, 2009 Poured with a nice but non-lasting 2 finger head. Aroma of sweet hops and a matching taste. Very sweet citrus notes. I say citrus, but it actually tastes like there’s a lemon/orange peel in the beer. Nice taste, bittersweet palate. Overall, i’ve had better IIPA’s, but this isn’t bad thirdeye11 (530), Texas, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 26, 2009 (draught at Holy Grail Pub) pours clear orange with nice lasting creamy head. Nose of fruits, sweet bread, and citrus hops with light pine aroma too. Taste is alcohol, white pepper, fruity bread, and syrupy caramel malts. Finishes thick, creamy and syrupy. A nice dipa but not top tier for me. I love the steadiness of the flavors. It’s sweet and barely hoppy but drops hints of caramel and dark chocolate. jibbyslim (10), Los Angeles, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 21, 2009 12 oz bottle, pours a cola-like brown color with noticeable head. Lacing is prominent on sides of glass but retreats quickly. Aroma is fresh and floral, some roastiness. Taste is bitter but complemented with some toastiness and a little citrus. Some maltiness noted. Palate is very full; you can feel the carbonation. Really nice beer, very satisfying. SteelyDog (11), Texas, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Nov 20, 2009 Goes down incredibly smoothly for an imperial IPA. Has great depth in flavor, beginning with a hoppy assault on the taste buds and finishing with sweet citrus undertones. One of the fullest flavored and most complex beers I’ve ever had. | 4.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Nov 18, 2009 This is the beer that changed my life as a beer drinker, was a canoe beer drinker before. This beer made me see the errors of my ways. If there is a perfect beer this is it. The perfect balance of malts without being overly sweet and the perfect hop bitterness without puckering your backside. Had on draught and bottle in fact if i were cut i think i would bleed 90 minute IIPA. Can’t get enough
