Nose is mildly fruity. Taste is a little berry sweetness at the beginning roundng into a berry tartness at the end. Texture is slightly silky. Aftertaste is pleasant, yet, almost not there. An interesting beer, yet lacking in substance, especially considering the brewer. cathcacr (588), Portland, Oregon, USA

I got some notion of beet in the aroma out of the bottle, but next to nothing in aroma in the glass. There is some vague indication of that in the flavor. Palate watery / thin body. Appearance: clear orange-gold with very little foam. Putting it blind against many a lager, I’d have a tough time grasping for a difference. First time in a while I do an overall score under 10. That hint in the aftertaste of something unusual salvages it from 2/5 or under territory.

Mine is more like a medium amber color with perhaps a hint of purple/red if I stretch the imagination. Small white head. Sourish funky aroma. Very drying on the palate. Fair beer if you are into something different. For uniqueness this would get a great rating. As a fruit beer it is mediocre. BearBrewer (86), New York, east village, New York, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 27, 2005 weird stuff. Bright purple, smells like a dry red wine, kind of sherry like. You can taste the currants, but its really dry.. almost vinegary. Bitter, nice hops.. but weird. unique in its color and attitude, definately worth trying. swirl (267), collingswood, New Jersey, USA
| 1.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 5/5 | 2/10 | 2/5 | 2/20 | Mar 26, 2005 This beer was exciting only in the fact that it pours a vibrant purple color. The smell coming from the glass reminded me of tuna fish. The taste was closer to a dry red wine. Very bitter and kind of fishy this is by far the worst beer I’ve ever had. Seeing a hypnotist to block this attrocity from my mind. green (187), Boston, Massachusetts, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 5/5 | 10/20 | Mar 23, 2005 Cellar Temp. Uh…………ok, this is purple and smells like grape juice served in an old sneaker. Color is light but mouth feel is thick? Is this wine? Vinous to say the least with some crisp green apple. Finishes big and tart. Don’t like the smell but I kind of like this. Woah, strange musty things start blossoming as the beer warms. Jonathan3584 (323), Washington, Washington DC, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Mar 22, 2005 Far and away the worst DFH beer I’ve ever had. On tap in Rehoboth, pours the color of the Red Violet crayon in the big crayola boxes. Head is light pink. Flavor is sour and fruity, but not like a lambic, and not like currants. It’s quite reminiscient of Red Bull. I’m just going to pretend this beer didn’t happen and not let it mar my opinion of DFH. BeerBlockaid (538), Jacksonville, Florida, USA

Almost finished and I am still waiting for it to turn purple like below. It definately becomes smoother and more enjoyable the warmer it gets, and the farther you get into it. Some fruity tones with a salty taste. It’s overall bitterness isnt bad. Looks more like watered down sweet tea. Am I missing something here?
