| 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Jan 22, 2005 Ok, the color of this brew is already stirring my stomach. Fizzy, pinkish purple head. Thin with with light carbonation. Sickly sour smell. Smells like someone vomited. Sour grapes and fizz. Color is a very deep reddish purple. Flavor is vomit and some vegetable. Quite nasty. Sour grapes again and some random berries. Not sure if this is what currents taste like. Description says a golden ale, my ass. Finish is sour and unappealing. Not sure what the hell they were thinking with this one. Not recommended. Maybe they changed something for the 2004-2005 version. My opinion, change it back!!! lamas (716), Adams Morgan, Washington DC, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jan 21, 2005 Bottle. Pours a purple color with thin bubbly pink head. Aroma is of hops, yeast and berries. On the thin side but still packed with taste. Hoppy and yeasty. Finishes very tart. Higher ABV isn’t noticeable. This is what fruit beers should taste like. Dogbrick (2855), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Jan 19, 2005 To quote Mr. Horse: "No sir, I didn’t like it!". Not sure what this is supposed to be but it didn’t do much for me. Pours the color of cherry cough syrup with a thin pinkish beige head. Thin lacing. The aroma consists of sour fruit (cranberries mostly) and a bit of yeast. Medium-bodied and bubbly with an overpoweringly sour character. Cranberry, banana and yeast flavors dominate, and frankly the one-trick-pony aspect of it got old pretty quick. The finish was more of the same, sour fruit (cranberries and grapes). I won’t bother with this one again. TheRimmer (483), Florida, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 18, 2005 Interesting. its purple/red. Very wine like. At first the courant flavor is a bit... extreme. it might be the alcohol content, but as the bottle empties it becomes more palatable and flavorful. Dry, slightly bitter, and sour. Grape, red wine flavors and qualities. DontFearTheHops (6), USA does not count | 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jan 17, 2005 Pours.....purple. Looks like Manischewitz wine. Has more in common with a lambic than a traditional ale. There is little nuance here however. Courant flavor is overwhelming. Dogfish might have tried using the flavor just to jazz up one of their excellent brews instead of turning the whole concotion into Welch’s grape soda.. Kudos for creativity. | 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jan 17, 2005 Pours a deep blood red and makes a sudsy pink head.. woah! Aromatics are very barnyard... almost too barnyard, my first impression was that this smells alot like fertilizer, can’t say that I like these odors, sulphury.. yuck. Flavor is very tart, currant/sour cherries are dominant here, peppery spice, tangy bitterness. Either way, its not a favorite. Mouthfeel is pretty thin and finishes very dry. Hats off to Dogfish Head for their ever lasting creativity in brewing, however this one isn’t exactly my favorite. I don’t plan on consuming again. Goblincat (357), Westland, Michigan, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jan 16, 2005 Pours a purplish color... very interesting. Aroma comes off like an odd sour fruit/ wet dog. The taste comes off very similar, only amplified. Almost tastes like a sweet port wine. An odd brew.
