Aromatics are very barnyard... almost too barnyard, my first impression was that this smells alot like fertilizer, can’t say that I like these odors, sulphury.. yuck. Flavor is very tart, currant/sour cherries are dominant here, peppery spice, tangy bitterness. Either way, its not a favorite. Mouthfeel is pretty thin and finishes very dry. Hats off to Dogfish Head for their ever lasting creativity in brewing, however this one isn’t exactly my favorite. I don’t plan on consuming again. Goblincat (357), Westland, Michigan, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jan 16, 2005 Pours a purplish color... very interesting. Aroma comes off like an odd sour fruit/ wet dog. The taste comes off very similar, only amplified. Almost tastes like a sweet port wine. An odd brew. kujo9 (1078), North Ridgeville, Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 11/20 | Jan 13, 2005 12 oz bottle purchased @ Mustard Seed Market in Solon, OH: Pours reddish pink like cranberry juice and has a short lived light magenta head. Laces well. Sweaty aroma along with some wet horseblanket & catty aromas. Currant aroma is a lot lighter than others until it warms, but it still takes the back seat. There also seems to be a light grainy malt and floral hop as it warms, but it’s very faint. Flavor is well balanced, a little tart at first, but smooths out as it warms. Currant flavor more apparent in the flavor as is the grainy malt. A little bit of herbal hop flavor at the very finish which is semi dry & into the lightly grainy malt flavored aftertaste, which is short when you put things into perspective. There’s also a little bit of an earthy, musty flavor at the start. Light medium body, low medium carbonation, and a little mouthpuckering. Not astringent, but dry and strangely smooth at the same time. A very interesting beer to say the least! Not as sour as a lambic, but has some of the characteristics, as well as some grainy "golden ale" characteristics that share the beer equally at different temps. It’s not something I’d drink a whole lot of, but it is interesting for a change Drew (2410), Kent, Ohio, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 11, 2005 Well, I’ll be a Highway Star - this brew is so very Deep Purple! Very sweet and fruity aroma. You’d better like currants if you’re drinking this one - there’s also an interesing spicyness at the finish - from the yeast maybe? The first time I sampled this it just seemed way too sweet, but after drinking a whole bottle of it, I was a little more impressed with the tart dry finish and the spice. gsteph (266), knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jan 7, 2005 Reddish amber color with a fizzy white head that left in a hurry. Murky with pieces of sediment. Tart berry and alcohol aroma. Tart berry flavor, grapey, malty and sweet. Not bad. Good carbonation fizz. Slight berry, bitter finish but very palatable. So-so brew. I don’t think it could bolster my bluster quite like a barleywine though. Decent experiment nonetheless. crizay (1050), Brook Park (was Tampa,FL), Ohio, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 3, 2005 Poured a murky amber with a short white head. Aroma is wonderful... fruity, light and refreshing. Taste is slightly bitter, hoppy, with slight fruit character, tart and crisp. A good winter thirst quencher.
