| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 16, 2004 Smells like hops, carmel, currants. Scent is not that strong. Nice golden-orange color. Small white head. Little lacing. Nice, mildly hoppy, currant and berry flavor. Sweet, perhaps a little too much so. Tastes similar to Blackberry Clearly Canadian. Easy to drink though, again, a bit sweet. Overall, a decent fruit beer. Sweetness can be overwhelming, but use of currant is a nice change of pace. DYCSoccer17 (2197), Davis, California, USA

Smells a lot like the Long Trail Blackberry or Sea Dog Raspberry. Pour is true to style. Mild Mildly cloudy copper/blonde color with quickly dissipating white head. Sweet finish. Currant noticeable throughout. Not as much as a pleasant surprise as the Aprihop or the Punkin Ale. ChazyRPh (571), Chazy, New York, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 5, 2004 bottle...pours a clear amber with lots of tiny bubbles...very little head and what head exists is gone before you know it. Fruity nose, I smell raspberry. I don't recall ever having a currant, so I'm not sure how they are supposed to taste. Mild hoppiness to start, sweetening out with fruity flavors (probably currant), finishing out with a bitter aftertaste that lingers and draws you back for more. I think this is a very nice beer. Pours a rosey amber color with a thin white head that diminished quickly to a ring of bubbles. Definitely fruity nose, sort of tart cherries and currants along with a floral hoppiness. Very interesting flavor profile, sweet - almost fruity syrupy - but at the same time tart tones in the middle and bitterness toward the finish. Quite clean and refreshing. Full body and crisp carbonation. beerguy101 (3946), Newark, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 1, 2004 Gold color. Small white foamy head. Aroma is fruity and sweet. Currents and oranges. A medium bodied fruit/golden ale. Malts are fruity and sweet. Hops are slightly spicy and mild. The currents are fruity without being to sweet or too tart. Nicely balanced. Finish is very clean. Nice winter seasonal. The 7% alcohol is not noticeable. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and dry. Aftertaste is slightly sweet. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 30, 2004 12 oz. bottle. I just had this one with dinner. It pours with a nice head and a deep yellow-straw color. The aroma is delectable, with hints of currants, raspberries, honey, and yeast. The alcohol is well hidden, and the first sip goes down real smooth, with a solid currant flavor. At its core, this is a very malty gold ale, with a good hop flavor. I believe that this would be great even without the currants. In fact, it seems ever so slightly unbalanced for that reason. Finishes slightly sour with sweet currant overtones. My taste buds don't know whether to expect currants or pale ale. Still, a nice summer beer that even my wife enjoys. Worth seeking out. Bonus points to Sam Calagione for having the balls to make this style.
