Commercial Description:
Black & Blue is golden Belgian Ale made with over 300 lbs of fresh blackberries and blueberries. With a deep purple full body and a long-lasting lacy pink head, this ale is both attractive and delicious! It is tart and fruity, like our brewers! The subtle bitterness of Hallertau and Saaz hops shines through the fruit forward flavor and sets the palate aglow. (30 IBUs). This tasty brew has smooth but noticeable alcohol warmth. Belgian yeast gives this brew a characteristically dry spicy finish. The beautiful interplay of fruit, spice, and alcohol is complimented by a soft malt profile, and a high level of carbonation.

btl by Butters. Deep amber pour with hints of red. Off white head and lace. Cherry sourness and light malt. Dark brown sugar sweetness with a hint of fruitiness. A foamy medium bodied beer. Very well hidden abv.

750 mL bottle. Pours a deep amber, no head. Aroma is malty with lots of tart dark fruits. Flavor is sweet on the front and finishes tart. Not a huge fan. Re-rate after trying again on 4.17.09: Bumping the aroma up from 5 to 7. Has a nice but not overly artificial berry smell with a hint of caramel. Adding a point to the flavor as well. I’m liking the semi tart, but not vinegary finish. Taking overall from 11 to 14.

750ml bottle. Dark brownish color, slightly rosey head. Very fruity and somewhat tart aroma. Not overly sweet, the berries are very prominent though. Very tasty.

Sampled from a 25.6 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark ruby color with a small pink head and multiple floaters. The aroma was interestingly tart, bitter, sour and funky with vague fruits. The flavor was bitter, tart and tangy with a moderate dry berry element and a funky musty undertone. The finish was long musty berry. Nice.

750 ml bottle. Poured amber purple in color with a very little white head. Aroma of berries, and a fairly sweet malt. Tastes of Blackberries, blueberries, Belgian yeast, with some lightly tart fruits and a fairly sweet malt base. Finishes a little warm with the 10% abv.

This pours a dark amber-orange. Bubbly, with sparse white head. Very smooth, with obvious berry qualities. Tasted blueberry and blackberry, but finished with the tartness of raspberry. Not my type of thing, but it’s definitely something different.

Thanks to butters for sharing this one. Pours a fairly clear amber body with a fleeting white head. Funky Belgian aroma. Tart and fruity with some spice. Almost a hint of licorice in there too.
